Weird to borrow neighbor's vacuum?

Anonymous
Happy Thanksgiving! Long story short, we have company coming at 1pm and my son just came upstairs to tell me that our vacuum started sparking and smoking and no longer turns on. Would you feel weird if your neighbor asked you to borrow your vacuum? Our cleaning person doesn't come until tomorrow so it's been since Sunday that we vacuumed and it shows.

I think its OK if you dont have pets.

I would gladly loan it to you, OP.

My vacuum has done that when the filters were clogged to the point where the motor overheated. All I had to do was open up the compartments where the filters are and follow instructions to rinse and dry them. After the Holiday, maybe you can try that.

I would be happy to loan you mine in that case...even with a pet

Do you know them and are you friendly?

If you came to my house, I’d give you my old upright that I don’t use any more and you could keep it.

Here's a secret...People who are having fun and are excited for the holidays don't notice floors.

If you are friends with the neighbor it's not weird to ask. But I'd skip vacuuming. And don't self-consciously mention it.

No its strange. You need to clean the hair off your roller and get a new belt. There should also be a reset button on your vacuum.

You vacuumed 4 days ago? You should be fine unless you have a pet.

Lending someone my vacuum is like lending someone my toothbrush.

Hard no.

Besides, you said cleaners are coming tomorrow? I'm a vacuum every-other-day kinda person, but you can deal. This isn't an emergency. Certainly not one to both your neighbor and ask for a home appliance.

Sure I'd lend a vacuum. It is what neighbors do.

(A vacuum is not a toothbrush)

You'd become that weird neighbor that nobody wants to associate with if you asked to borrow a vacuum. That's just beyond weird and boundary crossing, like asking to borrow toothbrush, laundry room, or rando strangers asking to use the bathroom.

Not necessarily like a toothbrush, but I don't want the crud from your floor in my vacuum cleaner. Unless you were a very close friend (got one nearby you can ask?), my answer would be no

LMAO I said the same thing before reading the replies in the thread. It's just beyond crazy.

I'd just assume someone was on meth or crack or something if they knocked and asked to borrow something like that.

It's a lot like a toothbrush.

In a true emergency, I'd lend my vacuum to a close family member or friend if I knew the conditions of their home.

A neighbor? Unless you're very close BFFs, absolutely not. Gross.
