Commerical advertising through MCPS email

Are there MCPs polices about sending mass commerical advertising emails to students/parents through MCPS email systems?

I had to talk to our ES about not sending home private school solicitations through backpack mail.

It might be spam that got past the filters

The only private company advertising I get is stuff for camps that comes home in backpack folders. I'm surprised there's anything else.

I keep getting emails from various Einstein teachers that don't teach my kid about optional trips abroad through various companies. They at least put in the emails “this trip is not sponsored by MCPS”. I don’t appreciate they are taking advantage of access to the full parent email database.

Some of these teachers have a hard enough time doing their first job. They shouldn’t be wasting time trying to get themselves a free trip abroad.

How is MCPS not liable if these trips are advertised through the school email platform?

They aren’t allowed but the principal is very relaxed.

That's the PTSA's email platform, not the school's. And of course teachers are members of the PTSA.

You do realize that the students go on these ”free trips” abroad so their is benefit to the students.

You do realize that the students go on these ”free trips” abroad so their is benefit to the students.

They are many thousands so it’s not a trip inclusive. They send it through their work email and school newsletters too.

The piano advertising is for resale of used pianos that get cycled out of schools. It’s a partnership between the company and MCPS.

I’m not the Op, but I am always struck that I get more emails from Jostens harassing me to buy a yearbook year round than I get from the school itself.

We got those offers sent home since the 80s. They may have been sending it before then, but I can’t speak to it.

Have you bought one? The advertisement says that the company provides new pianos to MCPS, and offers them to the public as well.
