| Can the bride dictate what a MIL wears to the wedding? |
| Sure |
|
MIL can where whatever she wants. She may let the bride decide for her or not; it’s up to the MIL.
This is obvious, so what are you really asking? |
| Typically the bride sets a dress code and gives some color guidelines (avoid garnet because the bridesmaids are wearing it, for example). |
| Lady, just go buy a nice beige dress. Next question. |
| Clearly your actions or attitude to this point has made your future DIL uneasy about what you plan to do. |

I didn't dictate anybody's clothes for the wedding. My MIL looked nice. My mom made several fashion mistakes.
I'd say it's polite to ask so the pictures will look better. |
| Here we go … |
| In my best friend’s case her bridegroom expressly told his mother to dress appropriately. She had been threatening to wear white. |
| Yes, if the MIL has questionable taste… |
| I don't think she should dictate what TO wear, but could definitely request what NOT to wear. |
| Why not just wear what's asked? It takes the guesswork out and everyone will be happier. |

Take a look at what Melanie Griffith wore to her daughter's wedding and how it looks in the pictures. You don't want to be the oddball.

| Don't think bride should have ANY SAY in what MIL wears - says something about bride. Run, groom. (Woman here.) |
Why can't you just go with the flow? It's not your day. |
