Do you check your kid's portal?

Spoke to a mom who told me that she regularly checks her kid's portal to make sure all materials are in. I asked if her kid ever checks it and she said her kid doesn't even know the passwords. The mom seemed pretty proud of herself for helping her DC navigate the application process. Is it common for parents to be this involved and kids uninvolved? Seems a bit much to me.

I did not check my kid’s portal but I did tell
Them to keep and eye on deadlines and reminded them from time to time. It’s different for everyone. Maybe I could have or should have? My kid’s done with the process so I’ll never know….

Parent of a HS senior. I don’t even know my senior’s common app password. My kid has done it all herself.

No, I don’t have any of the passwords.

Of course not.

My kids did this, not me.

No.

I could see what had been done in Scoir with my own login, but I never had access to my daughter’s individual university portals. Daughter and counselor took care of everything. I’m sure there are plenty of parents who micromanage everything, but that’s one of the things we paid for at our private school, and I was glad to have it off of my plate.

I have access and I check every couple of weeks just to see what the grades are looking like. I just continue with the mantra of "no missed deadlines, no zeros, take advantage of all extra credit, you are one of hundreds of students that a professor deals with so don't expect special treatment, don't put yourself in a position to make stupid, eye-rolling worthy excuses." He's learning. He is in his portal every day.

Some parents are on Canvas daily. For those parents, they have to control the college application process as well.

I also don’t know my kid’s login BUT know kid logs in frequently.

Sounds like your kid doesn’t have ADHD, congrats to you. Some of us are trying to help our kids apply to college or else they might not even go. And maybe they’ll fail out once they’re there. I hope you are extra smug when we have to tell you about that.

Please 17:35. If they deide kit to go, you will help them with what they do decide to do instead of college.

To OP, what portal, kids should be doing stuff
