it's because it only goes to 1 decimal place.

What would Obama have been? Hawaiian? Black? White? Multiracial?

I'm guessing most of those white spots are athletes or legacies. I know a major metro area white kid who got in (they had a distant hook but probably didn't move the needle). But they are pretty rare.

Obama wasn't Hawaiian. he's biracial. or this is how you self-identify, so maybe black. which seems fair.

I approve of this.
it's better than using international numbers mixed into the other - so you could have 10% black and then you double dip in other stats with x% international.

I agree that in his case he would likely identify as multi-racial. But couldn't a 100% white kid from Hawaii claim to be Hawaiian?

Kind of like how a white person who lived most of their life in Africa theoretically is "African-American?" I don't know how precisely they define this but I think they could say that with a straight face.

I hate Trump and I hate how he is dealing with this but I can't wait for the day when all of these boxes go away.

no. my husband is from morocco. my kid, while 1/2 "African", is not African American. Likewise, Elon Musk is not "African-American". Hawaiian is an indigineous ethinicity
