Iron insufficiency

Does anyone get iron infusions? I’m on HRT at an appropriate patch/pill dose, but I’ve become significantly more fatigued, feel cold often, have some joint pain and hair shedding. I also have low ferritin. Anyone else have that and fixed it?

Yes. Get the infusions. They make a world of difference.

Iron supplements have worked for me. Have you tried this?

Iron supplements do nothing for me. My hematologist says they are very inefficient at being absorbed and they don’t work well for many people. I get my iron levels checked every 3 months and get infusions if needed.

Yup and B12. Eat something before you get it.

Are your periods still very heavy?

I have no more anemia after my hysterectomy 3 years ago.

Over a year. I don’t feel different after OTC iron supplements.

Eat liver?

I had semi-low ferritin and had an infusion. My levels went way up, but I feel the same. My excessive hair loss stopped about 6 weeks after the infusion, but I also started taking spirolactone at the same time, so I don't know which one made an impact. I do have heavy perios.

I’m the PP who got a ferritin infusion. I live in a different country so I’m not sure if my experience is relevant, but a doctor prescribed it based on lab work.

My iron is always borderline. Supplements have not worked for me. I keep asking for infusions but the doctors keep saying my iron is now low enough. Does anyone know if there are out of pocket places I could go for an infusion?

Bump! I am also trying to boost my iron levels and looking for options for the IV infusions. Doctor keeps saying take Slow Fe and it’s not working.
