Easy protein ideas to have in the house

Anonymous
I’m 50+ and trying to eat more protein. Looking for easy protein grab and go ideas to have in the house without having to do a lot of prep/cooking. Other than eggs and cottage cheese, what are some ideas for easy proteins to eat for breakfast and lunch. Trying to avoid too much salt and sodium so most packaged and processed foods like deli meat are out for now. Thanks for any suggestions!

Turkey Chomps are processed meat but not too bad compared to a lot of things out there.

I add chia seeds to lots of things -- oatmeal, yogurt, salads, even desserts. They add a nice little crunch.

I've also started adding hemp hearts to a lot of baked goods, like banana bread and oatmeal cookies. They have a mild, nutty flavor that blends well with other things and are loaded with protein.

Greek yogurt of course.

Black beans (also a great salad addition, good on their own or with rice as a side).

Avocadoes

Chickpeas

Lentils

Cheese

I keep a baked chicken in the fridge and eat some when I feel like eating, I love it cold.

Roast some chicken breasts in the bone and then add to things. Tuna that's low salt. Black beans.

Cooked meats: pot roast, chicken, steak. I like having cooked chicken on hand. Also when we grill steaks, I like grilling a bit extra and then slice into salad or with lunch.

Beans / lentils, are another option. I used to pre-cook beans and freeze. But they are also great to keep for a few days in fridge.

Canned Tuna is also an option if you like it.

+1 beans - I buy canned and rinse them. I think that removes most of the salt.
