ECNL moving to school year not calendar

P2P is not a thing. It is a glossy program to make parents pay $$$$$. Wake up U8-U11 parents, you are getting fleeced

P2P = Pay To Play (parents pay).

Academies = managed by MLS clubs (parents don’t pay)

Is anyone else hearing that? My club and friends at other clubs said they heard the same thing. So GA clubs are leaving for ECNL.

Sounds like this will be a big issue for 26/27.
Not so much for next year but that clubs are being out on notice.

Current club is leaving MLS next and moving academy teams to ECNL’s highest ranked division. According to club leadership, MLS next was moving our club into a lower division despite our teams outstanding record (minimal losses and high number of goals). Club isn’t an MLS academy and said there will be higher competition of play at the ECNL level vs moving to the lower MLS next level. Unsure how to feel. All the boys are obviously bummed to lose the MLS next badge.

So bottom line: ECNL and MLS Next launched into an all-out war against each other. And school year (ECNL) vs birth year (MLSN) is just a tool that ECNL is hoping gives them an upper hand in who parents pay?

The biggest loser in this 'war'? The boys and girls that want to play soccer competitively.

Well done by the club!

ECNL is higher competition than MLSN2.

MLSN2 is a scam, they give you the MLS Next badge, but MLSN1 clubs will put there their second and third teams.

We were playing USCS NPL/USYS Natuonal, were offered MLSN2, the club said NO, and now moving our teams to ECNL and ECNL-R.

A lot of this recent stuff all sounds like anti-MLSN propaganda ... Our club is adding the new MLSN league and they've said from the start HS is OK and SY is likely (tho not official yet). End of story.

I guess true to some extent. To be fair to ECNL though, they can say they are switching to SY because that is what US Soccer recommended and all of US youth soccer is changing to SY. They can also say that colleges have pushed for SY to make it easier for recruitment.

The players will be fine. All of this traveling by MLS Next clubs does nothing to improve the development of the players. In fact, it burns them out.

To be a powerhouse in this sport, we need higher level coaching and training from the grassroots all the way up to the most competitive youth levels.

In too many clubs and schools the coaches are very sub par and focus too much on physical abilities and not enough on technical and tactical skills.

Best girls league probably in the world. They definitely have some good boys teams.

I’m not against MLSN1, I’m only saying that MLSN2 is way less competitive and interesting than ECNL.

Additionally, if MLSN1 remains BY and MLSN2 moves to SY by 26/27 … then impossible to handle for P2P clubs.

The end game has always been a pro pathway. The academies and maybe a small select group of teams will be MLSN and the rest will be 2.

The ones with ego maniacs for directors won’t accept the 2 and will play ECNL and pretend to be special. This is one of the reasons DA imploded. Some people couldn’t accept tier 2.

Now MLS is moving on without them and ECNL will be an irrelevant league.
