Color analysis

Went down a rabbit hole today and wow I can’t believe I haven’t been doing this my entire life! Yes I knew I was warm and how to choose hair highlights and red-orange lipstick colors but that’s about it. I knew I liked olive green and camel, but understanding what other shades will look good on me and why others wash me out makes so much sense. I’m going to go through a wardrobe re-do soon.

I recently used Natalie at District Color. She’s amazing and uses TCI which has a neutral undertone option unlike the other systems.

Not an ad. I am Asian with dark brown/black hair and eyes and always thought I looked okay in black. But makeup-wise, it always looked harsh so I loved coppery, bronze browns. Well I actually look much better in browns! And earthy colors - I knew mustard and olive looked good but hadn’t really given much thought to the whole spectrum and what to look for. I used ChatGPT and it said I was a soft autumn.

I got my colors done by online service and it was surprisingly life-changing. I love walking down the aisle at a thrift store and paying on 90% of the items based on color alone. It’s so efficient!

OP, I also have dark brown/black hair and eyes but our skin tones must be completely different. I wish I looked good in olive, camel, rust and other warm colors, but I look sallow and awful. I have to wear clear, cool colors - jewel tones are good.

It's amazing how skin tone is really what determines what colors suit you.

same with me. I think its a cool undertone I must have. At sephora they always pick the wrong shade for me at first and are suprised at how it looks on me. People that look similar to me look good in the olives/camel but i look best in jewels.

you must have already known your undertones then? or did you upload a pic?

i find color analysis so limiting and boring. the idea that there are "rules" that dictate how you should dress is anti-style.

It's a rehash of Color Me Beautiful, which was popular in the '80s. But don't dismiss it. It's not supposed to be "rules." The fact is, everyone looks better in some colors and some shades of certain colors, than others. When you start paying attention to this, it really does improve your overall look.
