Fender bender in Fairfax County.

Had a truck sideswipe me today. Called 911, they said since there are no injuries no cops would come. I asked them to come anyway. The other person was clearly at fault. No ticket. The police officer said trade insurance information and have a good day. Is this the new normal in Fairfax??

I’m in Montgomery County but that’s been the norm here for a long time.

I had something similar happened clearly not my fault. Police did not issue a ticket. I think it’s because Virginia is a no fault state.
Anonymous
I think this has been the norm for a while unfortunately.
This is why dash cams are so important.

Yup. You wanted Defund the police? Now you have it!
Anonymous
This has been the norm for a long while, and not just VA. Plus, VA is not a no-fault state.
Anonymous
Yes.

How did you vote op?

It's the normal everywhere I've lived. What did you want the police to do? Getting his insurance information is really all you need.
Anonymous
That's what no-fault insurance means. Each side's insurance pays for their own repairs.

No cop saw anything, so on what basis would they issue a traffic ticket?

Give it a rest.

Police doesn’t normally issue tickets if they don’t witness the accident. How do they know that the other person was clearly at fault?
Anonymous
I had a kid hit my car and it was clearly his fault. The cops came, would not issue a ticket. Then his father's insurance company called me and said that the kid said it was my fault and it became a huge deal. Always take photos and document as much as possible. Learn from my mistake.

Really? I got rear ended in MoCo and a cop came out, wrote the other driver a ticket and worked with both of us to make sure we knew what the next steps were (the other driver was very young). Another time, a driver rear ended me and then tried to drive away (ohhh MoCo), and the cop that came out spend time interviewing me, found her, and gave her a ticket (she was clearly not insured for the car that she was driving, also a really young woman).

So not my experience at all.

This has nothing to do with "defund the police"

By the way that is a Trump thing you idiot! Not only did he steal from NY 9/11 first responders yeah you know the POLICE! Project 2025 removes all protections for them being injured on the job that is real protection for sure moron, plus no overtime pay anymore. Then we have Jan 6th 141 members of the Capital Police were hurt that day. He has not only pardoned criminals that hurt those officers he celebrates those utter shits.

Bottom line steal from 9/11 first responders you are garbage and anti american to the core.

You sound vindicative. My daughter for instance who is young was very very tired coming home a very long shift. She rear ended someone after a 16 hours shift at the hospital working with children in the ICU. The other drive could drive away so not that bad. He called a cop and in MoCo the dick cop wrote up a failure to maintain vehicle speed. My daughter admited fault, I showed up a scene as near house and cop was such a jerk. He actually was encourging guy to sue us. My daughter was driving a car that went under back of large work truck and was in a daze. Cop was having paramedics look at guy first who was not hurt at all. He was in a big truck stopped at light.

After cop wrote ticket and I got paramedics to look at daughter cop comes to me and says police report will be ready in a few days. I said nicely why would I need it we admitted fault and going home to file claim. Then my daughter had to take off work to go to court on that stupid fake ticket. of course they plea it down if she pays fine to non moving violations

Thankd God other guy was honst. He told me when they were writting up ticket he only call 911 as was afraid my daughter was hurt and to get tow truck. I saw he filed his insurance and I already said 100 fault and his insurance got paid right away. This was all at 10am in morning on a weekend.

You do know a young driver being charged with a at fault accident and a moving violation is a death sentence for five years. The failure to control vehicle ticket was nonsense. The driver she hit did not see accident. My daughter was not aware what happened and cop showed up later. He issued a ticket for a violation no one saw. A cash grab. Never once asked how my daughter was doing after all the airbags exploded and car totaled. Her car was totalled the landscaper truck had a a bit of a ding on his massive metal bumper and trailor hitch. That guy continued on his way.

Almost forgot the cop yelled at me too. Since my daughters accident the car slide on shoulder and other guy was leaving and I was on phone with Geico calling tow truck as had towing. He stopped me and said that is my job it is going to impound yard. I just said car is clearly totaled. I live around three miles away. I am planning on towing it home to house. Let insurance come to my house look at it to confirm totaled and they they will take it so no impound fees. He was like that wont do. It got towed to a place 15 miles away and there was a week impound fees my insurance company paid before they totalled it.

The other drive even went to cop at end can I go I am late for work I have insurance info. Cop was like are you sure not hurt, maybe you need tow truck. Guy then just left. Kinda annoyed he even called as he thought he was doing right thing for my daughter to get her medical help if needed and get her towing if needed. All he got her was a ticket and him late for work.
