51 year old going back to work

Anonymous
I am having an awful time trying to find a job after a bit of a break from working. As a 51 year old woman am I doomed? I am getting turned down from very low level paying jobs (admin) and feel like a loser.

I’d love to get a job that isn’t sitting at a desk. Any recommendations would be appreciated. It doesn’t have to be high paying. I’ve got a masters in sociology I’ve never used. Thanks all

You want something where you're not behind a desk? You could work at Trader Joe's, but your feet and back are going to KILL even with the most supportive sneakers.

Do you want to work for something to do or for money? If the former, why not sign up to be a guardian ad litem? I bet they'd love your background.

You could go through the training to become a yoga or pilates instructor and then teach classes. If you did privates you'd earn more but it'd take a while to work up to that.

To be clear, you haven't worked since graduate school in your 20s? So 30 year gap?

Obv something para-educational would be the way to go like an occupational therapist -- can you get certified?

No regular job is going to hire you -- they are going to assume you are still stuck in the 90s regarding office functions and processes. Do you have good tech skills -- many SAHM are quite savvy with Google Docs and MS office as all of life has gone online? Play that up, perhaps you have some project you put together for a PTA?

OP here. Thanks all. I am Definitely looking for a paying job as I believe I will be separated from my partner soon and need to make money.

Your partner? Are you in a same sex relationship?

Is that relevant to OP's issue? No. No it is not, Nosy Nancy.

I’m sorry that does suck all around. Are your kids launched, could you move some where cheap and live off alimony? Dc job market is bad with all the laid off feds and contractors to compete with you b

When did you last work and what did you do?

OP is an anti SAHM troll. That’s why she is sky coy about her job history, because details are a pain to fabricate and maintain.

Restaurants. We need a hostess, an assistant manager, and servers. No experience necessary. Pay is from $20-$50 an hour.
Age 40+ encouraged to apply.
Our 18-year old got hired without experience and any connection in Tyson's Corner. He is doing 10-hour shifts as they need help and no workers to be found.
We can't find workers in DC.

Soon people will not be able to able to afford restaurant prices so those jobs will go away.
