| MY DS has a 10 minute after school detention today.,.. Can anyone explain to me why is not an hour? IMO it should be an hour. |
| Make kids miss the bus to inconvenience parents? |
| Why should teachers be punished to stay with your child after school at all, let alone past their contracted hours because your student can’t follow rules? As a parent you can pick up your child and implement an additional 50 minute detention at your house if that’s what you want. |
Would change inconvenience parents to say to try to have the parents take notice. |
They always walk home.. we are 5 minutes away from MV. |
So by giving 10 minute detention you are now aware DC did something at school and so detention worked from that standpoint and now up to you if you want to do more. The 10 minutes allows school to notice you and start paper trail in file. They don’t need to do more at this point, but you can if think merited. |
100%, which should be rather obvious to the parent. The fact that it wasn't shows the parent thinks the detention wasn't warranted, and THERE is the issue. |
| What did your snowflake do to warrant this detention? Regarding your question, why don’t you ask the principal instead of us? |
I know he did something, that why I want him to stay after for an hour..... |
| Shame. |
Give him consequences at home. You are the parent. How is that not sinking in. YOU should parent your own child. |
| That seems really dumb |
why can't you impose the consequence at home, or better yet, in a woodshed? |
Not OP but if the issue happened at school they should impose a real consequence at school. Parents can then layer on top of that if they see fit but it is stupid to just assume a parent will penalize the kid and so do nothing at the school level. |

As the principal. My guess would be so they can still catch the bus.
At my school, they are during the Mascot block time and not even after school. We do not have effective administrators or any real discipline. As teachers, we think it’s so the principals can say they are giving some sort of consequence when in reality they are not. |
