Getting married - Timing of manicure prep

Anonymous
I've never had acrylics or dips or any treatment that made my nails appear longer than my natural nails. But for my upcoming wedding I'd like to have longish/not short nails and to get a pro manicure. (I usually do my own nails at home and keep them shortish/squared and polished in muted colors, or one of the OPI reds for special nights out.) I had been growing out my own for the wedding, but broke one on each hand. So, I'm giving up on doing this 100% natural.

I am considering going now, a few weeks in advance, to get acrylic extensions done at a salon so that I can be sure the person does a good job and that I like the look. From what I've read, I'd need to get a "fill" before the actual wedding. I'm wondering if getting a fill looks different/less good than getting them done from scratch all over again? Should I get them removed and have a completely new set put on a few days before the event? Or should I just wait till a few days before the event and trust that I'll be happy with the result?

Is there something special I need to request so that they don't come out looking too thick? I want them to look as natural as possible.

Don't do it.

I'd go for a dip manicure now and just get tips on the two that have broken. In a few weeks they will have grown out and you can remove the dip and do them however you like. Definitely no need for a full set and certainly not in advance.

PP- Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I already cut back all of them so they wouldn't look weird being such different lengths.

Don't do acrylics - it will ruin your nails.

If you put on good old Sally Hansen Hard as Nails, you'll be back to normal in 10 days. Just keep applying - you can do this natural. You could certainly go in for a good manicure now and then go back one day before your wedding - you have plenty of time.

Also, look for a place that offers Dazzle Dry. It is tougher/lasts longer than normal, but not Gel, and you can remove it yourself without trashing your nails. Nothing In Between in Tysons offers it (not sure where you are located).
