Tell me how mifepristone and misoprostol work

College aged DD is 2 weeks pregnant. She attends college in a state where abortion is legal. It’s also legal in our home state. The easiest solution is to wait until Thanksgiving break—about another 5 weeks. She would be in her own room, have her own bathroom, etc. The other option is for me to fly to her and rent a hotel room for a few days. I don’t want to fly her home in the middle of the semester.

Here’s my question—if we do this this weekend, she’s 2 weeks along. If we wait until Thanksgiving, she’d be about 7 weeks along. Is it much more painful (cramping, bleeding) at 7 weeks than at 2 weeks?

No experience with it for pregnancy termination, but my daughter took misoprostol for her IUD insertion and experienced a half day of the worst pain of her life. I hope others will have more relevant experience, but on that alone, I would recommend not waiting til Thanksgiving. It can only get worse the further the pregnancy progresses.

7 weeks is fine. After 10 weeks it can get dicey, and after 12 I would do a surgical method.

She's not 2 weeks pregnant because "2 weeks" is basically the date of conception. You can't get a positive pregnancy test until 4 weeks minimum. So she wouldn't be 7 weeks at Thanksgiving, she would be more. This is really important to understand because it 100% impacts whether she is in the window for a medical abortion. Weeks are counter from last medical period. You need to know this when reading medical information.

Frankly, if she is sure and can do it at school she should do it asap.
Not get crappy first trimester symptoms and the bleeding will be better when she does take it. She does it on a Friday after class and she will be fine by Monday.

It's not 7 weeks though. If she knows she's pregnant now it's a minimum of 9.

Fly to her and do it now.

She is farther along than you think.

You are a great mom OP!

It hurts more the more material to expel. Duh.
Do it now. It's nice you will keep her company but it's not imperative.

Does she want to have an abortion? Maybe she wants to push the abortion around Thanksgiving because she is unsure about what to do, maybe she wants to continue the pregnancy but she is too afraid of temporary interrupt college and disappoint you?

+1. If you need to fly to her then go, but this is not something I would delay.

Stop.

OP's daughter made her decision.

OP did not ask your opinion she asked for information.

Keep your pro birth shit to your own body and MYOB.

How do you know OPs daughter wants to have an abortion? I didn’t read that at all in the post.

I think this is OP trying to push her values, such as they are, on her daughter who is probably grappling with uncertainty.

It's way more OP's business than it is yours. Butt out.

I'm assuming your daughter is 2 weeks from conception and thus just had a positive pregnancy test. That means she's actually 4 weeks pregnant, as pregnancy lengths are done from the start of your last period.

It also means she'd be nine weeks at Thanksgiving. I don't have any experience with the procedure, but logic tells me there's more stuff later.

But someone who is nine weeks pregnant is having symptoms. Exhaustion, cravings, aversions, nausea. Do not do her like that. Fly out there this weekend.
