Majors for Males

Anonymous
Serious Question.

What are guys majoring these days that is not Engineering, Comp. Science, Finance or Accounting.

What are good majors for males that are not heavy in programming or Math?

You are asking the wrong question.
1. Start with the transcript: what classes are all of the "Electives"? What are the "strongest" grades in?
2. What are the ECs? Anything unusual or standout
3. Any internships, jobs or research? If so, what?

Then you find a major to fit your kid's existing strengths.

Nursing is a great major for guys. Good pay, high level of flexibility. Guys get fast-tracked to prestige positions in ER and ICU and management.

My kid is majoring in Economics although he may want to transfer to the Business school.

He is also interested in public policy, but that interest may be fading as he becomes more interested in some business majors, like supply chain, data analytics, etc.

The last time I went to the ER, it seemed like most of the nurses were men and most of the doctors were women.

My son is pursuing a degree in Women’s and Gender Studies at Wellesley College.

Both of my sons are humanities guys - not STEM at all. One is majoring in history, the other in international affairs with a minor in a critical language.

remember, when you apply, you are an applicant for that major. You aren't actually in that major yet. There's a difference.

OP - Are you asking about App strategy or is your kid in college already and now they are lost?

Any subject they are interested in! There is no such thing as "majors for males".

It’s the 2000s, OP! Boys can study all the same things that girls can!

This. My kid is one his second year in College. He did pretty well in Accounting, Business Law and other similar electives in high school.
However, he's not liking the heavy aspects of math required for the College of Business and unless he has the GPA required he might not get into the program.

He did ok in Math in HS (Pre-Calc) but hated it, so I think he's having setbacks to high school math and freaking out.

He attends a College where most guys are either Engineering, Comp. Science, Finance and Accounting declared and some Sports Management.

He's doing the research but none of those paths above are calling him... He says, he doesn't have a clue what other guys major in the real world.
He's excellent at Writing, Public Speaking, negotiating (and God knows Persuading).

My husband is a programming/Software Engineer but that was never his interest either.

Just looking for ideas what guys are majoring these days besides the majors mentioned above...

Why are you and your son so concerned about what other *guys* are doing? Why not just ask, what majors/jobs should my kid consider who likes X Y and Z and doesn’t like A B and C?
