Of course God forbid any of us were in this type of scenario but what happens? Does the country she delivered in allow her to stay with the baby in the NICU? Or would they fly them back to the States?
I had a baby who had to stay in the hospital after birth and I have wondered what would have happened if she was delivered while I was in England or any other country , etc… |
| This is why you don't travel in your last trimester. |
|
What are you talking about OP?
Agree with a PP you don't travel near the end of your pregnancy. If that does happen obviously it depends on th specific country and circumstances. "Would they fly them back to the US" - you think another country is randomly paying for international medical transport? |
+1 You sound clueless OP. No, the country isn't going to expel a newborn and mother from the country. But they're not going to pay $10K to medevac you out of the country. I had to travel for work when 7 months pregnant, and while I had no indications I would give birth prematurely, you had better believe that I researched a reasonable quality hospital and doctor's names, just in case something went wrong. |
| Will the kick the mom out of the country? Not necessarily. Depends on the country, the visa situation, etc. They may let mom stay in NICU but may not necessarily let dad move in as well. Which means dad needs to rent a hotel. |
| This is why you don't travel after a certain point. Assume it depends on the country. If someone was to deliver in the US and they weren't a citizen or didn't have us health insurance, I would assume they would be looking at a 50k+ bill. |
| You’d probably get good care and it wouldn’t cost that much |
I wouldn't count on not paying much. NICU care is expensive and most US health insurers aren't paying for care that is rendered out of the country. I'd imagine that whoever finds themself in this situation will have huge medical bills. |
Or you get high quality travel insurance and make sure there's no exclusion for pregnancy (not sure this exists). |
| You don’t travel to strange countries when you’re about to give birth. Common sense 101. |
| I don't know about giving birth but I know someone's mom was in a serious car accident while in Mexico. The family had to do a go fund me to pay for a medivac and probably some of the medical bills. |
Uh birth tourism, hello. People come and deliver here from Central and South America all the time without insurance and it's all written off to the taxpayer. We are probably one of the only countries that does that and one reason why medical costs are so high for everyone else. |
| Dennis Leary’s wife gave birth in London at around 6 months and I believe they were stuck in London for 6 months after until the baby could travel. |
God, this post is so dumb it makes my head hurt with its dumbness |
That's what they told the sheeple so they could close the government and keep the Epstein files from being released. |
