DH is convinced this is a brilliant move and has initiated a second mortgage on our house. $300K 30-year fixed APR at 8.49%. This gives us $950K debt total on a $1.3M house.
Wants to buy in to AI stocks before it is too late. Is everyone else doing stuff like this and I’m just overly conservative? This seems like a bad move. |
| Either this is a troll or OP's DH is exceedingly dumb. |
| Sounds great. Go for it. |
| That’s insane. |
| He needs a psychiatrist to diagnose and treat whatever is making him do crazy things. Is this the new equivalent of midlife crisis affair, motorcycle or red sports car? |
| Unless he’s identified the next Nvidia or Apple, it sounds like a bad idea. |
| I'm calling it. This is the market top in the AI bubble. |
| When the market is aboutnl to collapse under the weight of overvalued AI stocks and crypto scams? This is either a troll post, or your spouse has the IQ of a flea |
| This can’t be a real post. |
| My guess is OP is the DH and is floating this scheme on DCUM to gauge the response. |

He's gambling, pure and simple. What's worse is that he lacks to $ he wants to gamble with, so is going into debt to obtain the funds he plans to risk. This is much more likely to result in a far worse financial position than when he started, as is true of all get-rich-quick initiatives.
A discussion around risk tolerance, yours included, might be helpful (probably not, sadly, given that this scheme has made it this far). That is, while your husband has visions of massive gains, they necessarily come with the realistic potential for massive losses and an ongoing debt burden you'll both have to satisfy over a long period of time. What would that debt cost you in terms of lost opportunities, lifestyle, and future financial security, is it all goes wrong. The potential rewards may be high, but the consequences of being wrong are very grave, so the risk is extreme. Propose instead that he buy stock with cash on hand you won't miss if it goes up in smoke. That provides a much smaller upside, but with no real risk since the consequences of losses would not be material. |
Why not just get a margin account |
| LOL. Don’t do that. |

Is he taking medications? This might need to go in the health forum. |
| Sounds like my bipolar brother who does things like this when he’s manic. |
