Where do you buy prints?

Anonymous
Do you buy framed or unframed? If unframed, where is the best place to buy frames? Thanks.

If it's something I absolutely have to have on Etsy I will hold my nose and buy it and then use a local custom framer. There's an artist I really like and he only sells on Etsy. (I'm not a fan of Etsy and would happily pay him directly but here we are)

What's wrong with Etsy?

I buy art there and on Chairish mostly. Occasionally at art fairs.

Last print I bought was in mont marte paris from the creator. Fabulous pop up outrageous french artiste complete with tiny turned up mustache Bought a gorgeous print he re-created from a "L'entre-deux-guerres" campaign for local shipping or something. I should have bought 3 or 4 of them- they were only about $33 ea. Later my brother went back to the shop and he was gone.

Local art fairs, and gift shops in museums and at national parks.

I buy frames on amazon or michaels.

I buy signed limited edition prints by artists I admire online from galleries or the artist. I get them framed in Falls Church if they aren't franed.

art.com is pretty vast in selection. You can get stuff framed from them, or buy cheaper frames at a place like Michael's. Kinda depends on what you are trying to do.

Prints from Minted, Etsy, other places online if I like something. I have used Minted's framing and also have ordered frames from arttoframe.com or elsewhere.

Directly from the artist’s website.

I'm not the PP who talked about Etsy but I hate it because:

1) They only allow you to review in the first few weeks of ownership. Once you've submitted a review, you cannot change it. If you've had something over a month, you cannot review it. It's a racket.

2) So. Many. Knockoffs and Chinese drop shippers. It's hard to tell who is the actual owner of the copyright of the product you are buying. If I buy something, I want the actual artist/creator to get the money I am spending.

3) Etsy always sides with the seller. Always.

Hmm. I buy all the time and haven't encountered problems. I know there are Chinese drop shippers, but I haven't seen that for art. in 15+ years of regularly buying there I've only had a few issues and only one who didn't return money, but I was overseas at the time, which factored into shipping.

I'm pp. I bought something there years ago and I love the print, but the frame is a piece of sh-t. It's plastic that looks like wood. Sooo cheap.

This question was asked a couple times recently also.

Best place for famous prints of paintings, etc. are museum websites.

Prints - national gallery or Phil’s art museum - if not mounted on wood, Ikea has good frames
