So burned out. I’ll never find a new job.

Just a rant… and yes I know everything sucks for everyone right now particularly the feds who are getting yo-yoed with the shutdown and rifs. But in any case, I had an in person job interview today for a job I really, truly want. And in reflecting back on it I realized I blew it. I likely over shared in my examples which just reflects how burned out I am in my current job. I am so depressed by everything. This year has absolutely killed me and my spirit (work in nonprofit funded by government grants and have had to oversee layoffs and other soulcrushing things in response this admin). I am soon myself to be laid off (end of year). I just want to crawl in a hole and not come out.

Hang in there. Learn from this interview and move forward.

You didn't blow it. Whether you get the job will depend on other candidates and not whether you overshared - and it's just as likely you came across as open and genuine. Keep going.

Can you take a break if you are burned out?
What's the most you need to earn a month to cover your bills?

Hang in there OP. I find we are often too harsh on ourselves. The interviewers may not even have noticed or did notice but found you genuine and vulnerable, which can be endearing.

Overshared on what?

Those of us who are employed may not be aware of how though the job market is. This time it's different. There are just not enough jobs because companies do not need the workers. It's as simple as that.We were 7 3 years ago and today we are 4. And we produce even more output with less staff due to efficiency gains from simplifying some processes and software.

It sucks. I am clinging to my job with my dear life. I have cut expenses to the bare minimum.

Those who think plenty of jobs will be available again please let us know why you think that will be the case. I want it to be the case so I'll be happy to hear from those who know more than I do about labour economics.

Respectfully, this isn’t helpful to OP.

PP here. My fault. I agree. They need support and I offered gloom.

Hang in there OP. Its a number game. Hopefully soon you will some good news your way.

OP, you may not have blown it. As PP said, you may have seemed candid, honest, etc. Keep thinking and acting like you did really well, and convince the universe to give you the job. F you haven’t sent your thank-yous, there’s another chance to sound professional and enthusiastic. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

+1 I'm damn near suicidal because I can't find a job and ready to give up on life. Thanks, PP for reminding me that it's never going to get better.

Put on a positive lucky attitude and carry on. I was unfairly fired in early summer—not performance related—new government boss was a tyrant who got rid of all senior people who didn’t kiss her butt or disagreed with her on anything. I quickly brushed myself off, updated my resume and actually got 2 *better* job offers one month later! And I’m over 60 even though I don’t look it.

My new job is a promotion and dream job—challenging, interesting, supportive management and friendly coworkers who share ideas! Getting fired from my former toxic workplace was a blessing!

And icing on the cake is that toxic witch and her organization are now furloughed while I’m working, ha ha!

OP, I was hired in June for a fully remote position with a pay increase at 50 yrs old after getting turned down by about 10 or so companies. Keep going.

Hearing how quickly other people got jobs also doesn’t help. This is OP. I’ve been looking since February. I’m in a niche field and. Senior role and it’s just hard. And I dread tailoring more resumes and writing more cover letters. I’m tired. This all really truly sucks

What field do you work in? I’m sorry you’re going through all of this, truly. I hope someone here can help.
