Why not? It is pretty good in rewriting your resume to match a particular job description. There is AI on the other side which is looking for certain keywords, matches.

Ok. That's a start. Unfortunately, ageism is real.

Software engineer...first you need a portfolio to prove you can do the job. Do you have a website showing off your skills?

Do you have an active LinkedIn? Profile filled out with keyboards? Do you post weekly/monthly to market yourself? Do you comment on posts for companies you want to work in? Connect with people working where you want to work?

Other than that...your resume/cover letter (if asked) need to show accomplishments with metrics. Does your resume read like a job duty or tailored results related to the company and position you are applying to?

Who has time to look at his website or LinkedIn posts. In fact, who has time to look at his and the other 299 applications for the position? It must go through some automated filters. Your advice to tailor the application to the position is spot on but AI can do it if you provide it with a detailed resume. Of course, if you have an internal contact who can put your resume in front of the hiring manager it would be more effective than AI

Hiring managers and recruiters are looking at portfolios. Just add it to your resume, cover letter and LinkedIn. They are also looking for skilled workers sharing their expertise online on LinkedIn or other online sites.

For my new job, I could see that my boss visited my portfolio and linkedin.

I've had recruiters reach out to me for other jobs based on having specific keywords on my LinkedIn.
I've had people email me because they found my old online tutorials (I've been slacking and haven't updated it in years) and asked me for more information...imagine if I kept my blog updated and a recruiter/hiring manager finds my page...they would probably hit me up for an interview if they had an opening because I proved I could do the job already.

That's why I also mentioned work on networking and making internal contacts now.

But look, do what y'all want. Keep just mass applying with AI resumes and see what happens. Maybe it will work out for you. Just trying to give advice from someone else in the tech field that got hired this year. Shrugs.

This is the OP from this thread. Just coming back to say I’ve heard nothing in the 10 days since my interview and am resigned that I’m not getting it. I also heard from a different job that they’re pausing the search (but they were kind? enough to tell me I was their pick had it gone forward).

My anxiety is through the roof. I’m trying to look at the bright side though. I’ve saved a decent amount this year and can afford multiple months of being unemployed. I’ve never had a significant break from work with the exception of a 8 week maternity leave (which is not a break). So maybe a layoff won’t be such a bad thing?

I’m just so over all of this.

Wow, does Fox News really make you believe that? The only people who cheer H1B are executive and corporate owners- which were always leaning republican.

Don’t worry. Our own government is handing out more h1b visas and opt visas to entry level workers.
