If you’re a french onion soup aficionado, the french onion soup burger at Shake Shack is SPECTACULAR

Tried this yesterday, no idea how long its been on their menu or how long it will stay on there. The best burger my husband and I have ever had. If you're not a french onion soup fan, you prob won't like it. If you are, it's just *chef's kiss* perfection. They totally nailed it.

Well, I read your title as assuring me I would love the an onion-soup flavored milkshake. I was thinking, “I like a little bacon, maybe onion’s good too?” I was ready to try it, OP!

I had low expectations but was intrigued enough to give it a try because we love french onion soup. For any restaurant, let alone a pseudo fast food burger, it's legit remarkable. Very, very well executed.

Oh, please, it’s hardly revolutionary. Here is the description:

A made-to-order quarter-pound per patty of 100% Angus beef topped with Gruyere cheese, caramelized onions, crispy sweet onions, and roasted garlic parmesan aioli on a toasted potato bun.

So it’s a burger, cheese, 2 types of onion, and aioli. Not that weird.

It reads like there's too much going on but it is perfectly balanced. The caramelized onions were deep brown and rich, while most places half-ass grilled onions. And the crispy onions might sound gimmicky but they give it great texture so it doesn't have a mushy mouthfeel.

Open Road Grill in VA also does an excellent French Onion burger

Thanks! Just looked it up, sounds very similar to Shake Shack:

FRENCH ONION BURGER
gruyere cheese, caramelized onions, crispy onions, steak sauce aioli, hand cut fries
$18.50

+1 For a moment, I wondered if I’d written this.

I agree. It was just a tad saltier than it needed to be, but I was seriously impressed. I ate the whole thing and when I finished, I really wished I had two bites more. I hadn’t even expected to like it all that much.

Got this for lunch because of this thread. Damn tasty.

Definitely going to try this now! Thanks for the recommendation.

I’d recommend paying the extra $2 for a double beef patty so the beef shines through. I think the toppings could possibly overpower a single beef patty.
