Q about Political Discussion thread

I don't mean to send you off on a bunch of tangents, but if you have time and inclination, I wondered if you'd take a peek at OP of this thread:

https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1296305.page
"Are we for/against a possible Trump success in brokering a lasting peace btw Palestine ans Israel"

There seems to be a recurring theme of "liberal/Dem/progressive" posts which read more like what someone from an anti- perspective would post as reasonable or illustrative of that view. They just feel ... off. The tone doesn't ring true. This is one of those threads, and it includes follow-ups like these:

DP. Look, it's clear you don't want him to succeed because you're far more concerned about your party than about hostages returning home. What a sick, sick mentality.

Um... this unhinged question was not asked by a "mags". It was some dope crowdsourcing his fellow liberal Democrats.

I mean, maybe it was posted in good faith. But can you see if the posting pattern actually fits someone who is posting as a liberal, or even just if there is sock-puppetting in the thread (e.g., the responses above)? Of course, if it's outside your scope of energy or interest, I completely understand. Thanks.

That poster appears to be a legitimate liberal though somewhat cynical. The poster is pointing out a conflict that I have also seen addressed elsewhere that pits principle against politics. As a principle, all of us should hope that Trump has success in bringing peace to Gaza and the wider Middle East. That would be great for all involved. Politically, however, it would be terrible for Trump to have a hugely significant success. Politically, it helps liberals for Trump to fail.

So the question becomes, is it worth achieving peace in the Middle East if it means Republican victories in 2026 and 2028?

I would only point out that Jimmy Carter achieved peace between Israel and Egypt and it did not end up helping him much. So, my preference is for Trump to succeed in achieving peace, but to remain politically radioactive due to the failures that he has already suffered.

Thanks for looking into that, and for your thoughts on it.
