Fenty Write-in Campaign

Anonymous
Didn't he do a whole speech about how he was done with politics for good? Why waste a vote on a guy who doesn't support a write-in candidacy?

This...how foolish are people going to feel if he actually captures more votes than Gray and then he declines the opportunity.

He knew that he was leaving a massive deficit. It is clear that the campaign rhetoric about 'making the hard choices' was bogus, and now he is relieved to not have to deal with the mess he created.

It is time to move on. Fenty has.

I can see that you're a discerning individual.

Because of your clear thinking and intelligence, I'm going to let you in on an extraordinary offer I don't share with just anyone. I'm representing some new beachfront property development in Florida that's a can't miss opportunity. I guarantee a special return for your early investment of time, money, and faith.

Call me at your earliest opportunity. My number is
1-800-285-5744 extension 8.

For those of you who prefer a mnemonic, that's 1-800-BULLSHIT.

Best of luck in your pursuit of windmill tilting!

I certainly acknowledge that the chances of Fenty winning a write-in campaign are small. However, anyone who thinks that he would decline the job were he to actually win it is delusional. Notice that all he is willing to say publicly is that he is not affiliated with this write-in campaign. He has not spoken to whether he would serve if elected. Unlike his unequivocal position with respect to accepting the Republican nomination, his silence as to whether he would serve if elected is deafening.

And of course he would. He may be relieved to have all of the irrational vitriol spewed about him (and directly at him) during the campaign behind him, but the fact remains that he likes and wants the job. Were he to win in November, he'd have a mandate. And you think he'd say, "I will not serve"? If you believe that, you have the intelligence of your average Gray supporter. (Note to uber-liberals of Ward 3 with your fancy degrees: I said "average". Step away from your computer. I don't need to hear about your Ph.D. Really. I SOOOO don't need to hear about it).

Fenty supporters: It's not likely. Neither was it likely that the United States would beat France in that 400 freestyle relay in Beijing. But 32-year-old Jason Lezak pulled it out, while the sports commentators concomitantly went on and on about how he just couldn't do it. He did it.

Nice to see that you've gotten more specific in your insults. You're really improving, pp.

AWESOME!!

So, what were you high on when you wrote that? Alcohol, cocaine, or ego?

Total grade = A-

(It was a toss up between giving you credit for originality and penalizing you for chemically/psychotically induced fantasy.)

Keep writing though! Entertainment always finds its audience.

It is her/his vote and they can cast it for Mickey Mouse.

lf the write-in is a replay of "rich white NW" residents, then it just gives credibility to the "Fenty dissed black people" argument which means Fenty would NEVER accept lest he be e forever tagged an Uncle Tom.

Pro-Fenty-and-or-Rhee, please reconsider and use your energies to lobby Gray to KEEP the real change agents like Lanier, Kline (more than just bike lanes) and others who will work hard without having to traipse around in Fenty's photo op shadow.

I'm not saying vote for Gray, just please don't validate the cynics.

That's who the majority of our Democratic party voted for in their primary. It's up to the rest of us to chose someone up to the job come November.

Please explain to me how a man who is 50% white, who is on record as being "mixed-race" and considers himself post-racial could ever logically be considered an Uncle Tom, in it's historic sense. Oh wait, nevermind. It's clear that logic is not a quality you possess.

Honey, let it go. The election is over. Your candidate has moved on; it's time for you to do the same. If it continues to be a problem? The solution isn't lashing out on DCUM. Consider asking your doc for a prescription for Prozac or Zoloft. The mayoral race is over, but you deserve to be happy anyway. Good luck getting the help you need.

Here's an idea that might make everyone happy -- whenever a job opens up in the one wards that went heavily for Gray, one of the fired teachers can be offered the position. I say give the people what they want!

Will Gray lift the hiring freeze that Fenty just announced? Here's a thought to help with the budget: pay the underqualified lower salaries. Have you seen the obscene amounts some (a lot?) of them make?

Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts during this very difficult time. Your sympathy means more to me than I can express.

Indeed, any sane person -- particularly any sane person with a child in DCPS -- would need a psychotropic assist in order to cope with the prospect that Vince Gray may be elected Mayor come November. But let's be smart about it: Neither Zoloft nor Prozac are good choices. The last thing I need in dealing with a catastrophe of this magnitude is a drug that's going to make me fat; tired; decrease my short-term memory and, (worst of all) decrease my libido; make it more difficult for me to achieve orgasm, and cause the orgasms that I am able to achieve to be fewer and less intense. No, no, and no. I take Wellbutrin, and would recommend it for anyone else having trouble with this tremendously depressing issue.

I must confess that there are times when Wellbutrin isn't enough. Like after I made the mistake of attending what was supposed to be Vince Gray's "listening session" for residents of Ward 3. First, it was painfully apparent that Mr. Gray does not possess the courage to face the residents of Ward 3, listen to our concerns, or even take our questions. Instead, he packed the hall with supporters from other wards.

During this exposition, I got to hear Vince Gray boast about the great education he received within DCPS. Apparently, he thinks that the status quo is pretty good. I also got to hear him pay lip service to the notion that, as Mayor, he does not intend to micromanage the schools. But then he immediately droned on and on about how he does not understand why this teacher was fired, or that teacher was let go, or a certain administrator was placed elsewhere. I got to hear about how he intends to hold extensive hearings about each suspect personnel action. The cognitive dissonance in what he said was overwhelming.

Then I got to hear Mr. Gray stress the importance of vocational education; technical education, and special education. I heard him say that all education should be tailored towards obtaining a job; apparently learning for the sake of learning is a concept foreign to Mr. Gray. If what you are learning within DCPS is not relevant to a specific job skill, it is irrelevant. Not once did Mr. Gray speak of the importance of a rigorous, traditional, academic curriculum. Not once did Mr. Gray speak of the importance of ensuring that our children are educated in a way that will prepare them for college and make them competitive college applicants.

I also got to hear about how the residents of this city are so compassionate that, perhaps, we will not mind having our taxes increased in order to better our provision of social services (while I do consider myself compassionate, I do most certainly mind).

Mr. Gray next proclaimed his view that, in order to hold a government job in DC, residency in DC should be required. Mr. Gray stressed that in his view, "a government job in DC" includes a job with the federal government. He did not explain how he came to this conclusion of over-inclusion, possibly because he was drowned out by applause from over-entitled, under-qualified residents who live well outside my ward.

What was made very clear to me throughout this travesty is that Mr. Gray's vision of "one city" is one that will cater to the lowest common denominator. He views residents living in wards two and three as mere subjects from which he intends to siphon taxes, which he will then use to try to bring those who are below the lowest common denominator up to that level.

After this meeting, I experienced a full-fledged panic attack. I had to call my doctor right then and there. At first he sounded annoyed, and said that he hoped this was important, as it was after-hours. I got about two sentences in before he stopped me; he said he could see that this was clearly an emergency -- that it would be for anyone -- and that he was glad I had called. A prescription for Xanax was called in to my nearest 24-hour pharmacy. It helped calm me down.

So again, thank you for your kind words, and thank you for listening. It means a lot. There's just one more thing I would like to ask of you, if you do not mind. Please go to: http://www.facebook.com/RunFentyRun, and hit "like". Our movement is increasing exponentially every day, but we need people like you to ensure that we can continue to live in this city that we love so very much.
