Robyn Lady Wants to Eliminate AP in FCPS

Anonymous
Robyn Lady said at the work session on KAA yesterday that she wants to eliminate AP in FCPS because it's too expensive.

What exactly does she want to replace AP with - clearly she doesn't want to replace it with IB, which she knows is even more expensive - and how would this serve FCPS students?

That will never happen.

She must have some alternative in mind, although I have no clue what that would be. She can't be that politically stupid.

She is not very bright, and her political instincts are unfailingly terrible.

Just listened, she was suggesting changing to Cambridge.

I don't understand. AP was developed in the United States. IB and Cambridge were both developed abroad.

If you want to have an international curriculum, why would you have both IB and Cambridge? Just have one uniform curriculum across the county's schools.

This seems like yet another half-assed idea tossed out by some School Board member with an ulterior motive.

I don't know much about it. AP seems to me to be working.
She did say Cambridge is much cheaper.

But, I don't see anything happening on that front this year. Too many other moving parts.

Getting rid of IB at the IB schools would make infinitely more sense than getting rid of AP, especially if cost is a consideration.

AAP culminates in TJ for our top students.

Why switch to another european program when IB is such a failure and waste of money?

She's talking about eliminating AP, not AAP.

But, yeah, she's pretty out there to toss out the idea of eliminating AP.

Girl needs a better filter.

https://www.cambridgeinternational.org/why-choose-us/find-a-cambridge-school/

Just tried out this find it link. Clicked on a couple of states--just get a town/city or two in the states listed.

So, of course FCPS will jump on something unneeded and untested.

She is talking about eliminating College Board AP classes that help FCPS to earn up to a full year of college credits while in high school, graduating a year early and potentially saving their parents anywhere from $10,000 to $90,000 in college, depending on the amounts of credits accepted

How can you ssy this is "good"?

It's not elementary school AAP centers she is talking about.

This is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard from a School Board member, and the competition is fierce.

And, she initially called it "Carnegie."

She did say it was cheaper. I just read a comparison at ASU --sounds like a poor man's IB.

I vote to stay with AP.

+1. We don’t need yet another system. Dump IB and save tons.
