Canceling tons of subscriptions--fastest way?

Anonymous
Going through a divorce and cutting all expenses while also realizing how disorganized I am. Instead of digging through each and every subscription, could I just close my bank account and figure they'll cancel themselves when the charges are declined? I know it kinda sounds nuts but also seems so easy. I just spent 30 minutes canceling Hulu and this would be so much easier. Things like streaming subscriptions, things that come in the mail, etc.

Technically you will still owe those services the money you agreed to. I'm in the same boat and I'm just biting the bullet and cancelling one by one.

Don’t be lazy, cancel individually. It is good to see what you were wasting money on so you don’t hopefully make that same mistake.

look at your bank statement or credit card statement to figure out what you've subscribed to and cancel them. Then you won't mess up anything like utility payments on autopay or have companies come after you for the money you owe.

+1. Cancelling the bank account won't stop the charges accruing. Just do all the ones you can think of and check the statement next month for any stragglers.

Everyone should be deliberate with their spending, not just people divorcing.

I can’t believe adults could even have these thoughts. What is wrong with you?

Rocket Money app will tell you all the subscriptions you have and you can cancel them right in the app.

Divorce is one of the most stressful life experiences that don’t involve anyone dying. It’s emotional, it’s expensive, it requires a sh!t ton of paperwork, it involves a lot of uncertainty about the future, and it affects one’s finances, living arrangements, and time with one’s children. OP has a lot on her plate and was hoping for a quicker, easier solution than contacting each vendor separately, which is understandable. She could probably use some kindness right about now.

I just read that ChatGPT can do it for you. I think you have to activate something on it.

For me, I do three things to cancel subscriptions,

1.go to apple and check subscriptions (just type "apple subscriptions" into your iphone and it will take you where you need to go)
2. go to paypal and check subscriptions
3. finally, check my checking/debit account for recurring payments

That takes care of 95% of my subscriptions

I haven’t used the app but have several friends that do and they love this feature.

It took me 3 minutes to cancel Hulu last week. HBO Max took me 2. What’s happening? Put an hour on your calendar and get it done.

You have to do one by one. You could however hire this out to an assistant.

How could it possibly have taken 30 minutes. This is a 5 minute max thing to do.
