When did we start saying middle school kids were taking “high school” classes? Tons of us took these math and language courses in middle school 30-40 years ago.
After all, the middle schools haven’t (in my memory) had to send a kid to the high school to take Algebra or Spanish because they’ve been teaching those subjects in house for decades. |
| Really don’t understand what you are asking. If a kid is taking a class that goes on their high school transcript it is a high school class. Maybe you notice now because you are online reading about it. |
| There were only two eighth graders in my section of algebra 2 twenty years ago when I took it. Everyone else was a sophomore or junior, so it felt like a high school class for sure. |
|
I am with OP when I took Algebra I and Geometry in middle school it didn’t go on my high school transcript, by my Algebra 2, Trigonometry and Calculus courses did.
|
| You can drop it off their high school transcript if you want. It’s not that big of a deal. |
| My son took Algebra 1, Geometry and French in middle school. The grades stay there. His high school transcript starts with Algebra 2, French 2. Not sure why it makes a difference? We didn't think of the classes as "high school" classes, he was just on an accelerated math track in middle school. Everyone took foreign language. |
| I guess this happened when kids started taking HS classes in middle school. |
Are you in FCPS? The grades transfer unless explicitly requested. It makes a difference because the HS GPA is calculated with the grades from 7th grade. |
At our private there is literally no way to expunge a credited course from the transcript, even if the course is taken in middle school. So my kids' transcript will include Algebra 1, Geometry, and Spanish from 7th and 8th grade. Because the school has a no expungement rule, they highly encourage the kids to think of these courses as high school courses. |
Highly, highly doubt this is true. |
Stunned you don't understand this. Do you know what AP classes are? |
| Of all the issues in the world, do you have nothing better to worry about? You don't have to put them on there if you don't want to. You don't even have to attend high school in the US. I cease to see how this is an issue for anyone. |
Okay |
You have a good memory. I graduated HS in 1989. Honestly can't remember what I took. A "lot of life" has occurred since then. |

My damn Algebra 1 grade (B) in middle school kicked me out of salutatorian running. The school didn’t advertise or tell kids middle school classes were on high school transcripts but that’s the only way the math worked out Relatedly, classes I took in high school also counted in college: APs & DEs. And my mom did CLEP exams. This isn’t as new as you think it is, OP |
