Our family has had more food poisoning the last two years than our whole lives combined, especially in the warmer months since we moved downtown. I also feel like we end up with more spoiled food from the grocery stores than we ever did living in the suburbs. Is this because we’re getting our groceries delivered or because we’re walking 20min home from Trader Joe’s with groceries? Or employees being careless with food safety? Also feel like restaurant food quality has gone so far downhill…
Anyone else in the same boat? We live in the DuPont / Logan area |

Wouldn't it be more likely to be poor refrigeration at the grocery store you patronize in-person and for delivery?
Do you all get sick from the same food? Have you sanitized your refrigerator and is it cooling properly? Have you asked your doctor to test you for the cause (since you have had many incidents)? Maybe you are all sensitized now to some common type of infection or germ. Maybe an e-coli that's not native to your gut? |
| Are you sure it’s food poisoning? How old are your kids and are they in school or daycare? |
Daycare. Excellent point, PP. |
To clarify. I am not OP. Just having a flashback to those years of stomach bugs sourced from daycare. |
| norovirus? |
| It might just be chance, I got norovirus three times in two years and then not again for a decade. No pattern, just noise. |
| That would be weird. Why do you think it's food poisoning rather than a stomach bug? And have you started taking GERD medicine? That reduces your ability to fight off food poisoning, supposedly. |
| That is not normal. Are you sure it's food poisoning vs viral gastroenteritis? Do you always shop in the same store? Does someone in the household have unhygienic practices at home? Have you checked the fridge temp is accurate? |
| Alternatively, you're onto your would-be murderer! |
| Not my experience and I live in Dupont and eat out a ton in the Dupont/Logan area. My money is on daycare stomach bugs. |
| OP here - i have teens! |
| Does your refrigerator cool properly? I’ve lived in Shaw/Logan for 20 years and work downtown and never had food poisoning. |
Yes! I live in this area too -- I often have chicken go bad when I get it delivered, or when my husband walks or bikes it home. I always shop with a car (from whole foods), put in a freezer bag and take it straight home. |
(And I also have never actually had food poisoning after living in the city for 20 years. But there are some "best practices".) |
