He couldn't conjure up charges so he gets fired.
Do people understand why one never goes and works for a malignant narcissist? There is never a winning hand no matter how inner circle you think you are. |
| Legal? Yes. Stupid? Also, yes, which is why other presidents don't do it. But Trump is... |
| So I guess we're just not going to have an EDVA US Atty anymore? |
|
It’s legal. But it also guarantees that any indictment they end up getting will be dismissed as a vindictive prosecution.
They may never even get one since the evidence seems so weak. She apparently clearly disclosed this was a second home on multiple documents, all of the people at the mortgage company said they knew it was a second home and they are relying on one line a pre-printed power of attorney. |
Wow, it's almost as if the Trump administration isn't acting in good faith. |
EDVA is one of the most important districts nationally as well as locally, fwiw. This is only a good thing if we hate the US and we hate the DMV. |
| EDVA does most of the national security cases - espionage, terrorism, hacking, etc. |
Trump in his senility doesn't care about that. Neither does Project 2025. Or any Republican in Congress, apparently. |
Some more tidbits from the article, bolded for emphasis:
So they're going to fire someone nominated by Trump, don't have a replacement yet (even if they did, it would have to be someone who is MAGA and who will know they HAVE to find some wrongdoing on the part of James to keep the job), and they will not consider the next person in line as a successor. Her name is Maya Song--so I'm guessing they'll say she was originally a DEI hire. |

Pam Bondi and Todd Blanche (!) have pushed back and defended Siebert.
So far, today, he has not been fired yet. |
He just resigned, per the WP. Some things in the article that stand out to me: 1) He was nominated by Trump. WH officials had praised his efforts on immigration enforcement and other Trump admin policies. 2) He had the support of the Youngkin administration, as well as of the two VA senators. 3) The judges of the US district court unanimously voted to extended his initial four-month period indefinitely. 4) The plan to remove him was instigated by Pulte, who has targeted others including Sen. Adam Schiff and Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook. Top Virginia prosecutor resigns amid criticism over Letitia James investigation https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2025/09/19/trump-letitia-james-erik-siebert-virginia/?utm_source=alert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=wp_news_alert_revere&location=alert |
Some time after midnight, after Siebert resigned, Trump posted the following: Today I withdrew the Nomination of Erik Siebert as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, when I was informed that he received the UNUSUALLY STRONG support of the two absolutely terrible, sleazebag Democrat Senators, from the Great State of Virginia. He didn’t quit, I fired him! Next time let him go in as a Democrat, not a Republican. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DJT This unprincipled, mendacious POS is now claiming that he fired Siebert when he "suddenly" found out--FIVE MONTHS LATER--that Siebert was nominated by the two VA senators, who happen to be Dems. He NEVER takes responsibility for anything. He ALWAYS blames it on someone else. Siebert is a Republican. He received Republican support for his nomination. His nomination was advanced by Senate Republicans, including Chairman Chuck Grassley of the Judiciary Committee, who pushed for its confirmation despite Democratic blocks. Additionally, key Republicans on Capitol Hill and Trump administration officials advocated to retain Siebert amid White House pressure for his removal. ABC reported he had the support of the Youngkin administration. And, as stated above, he was nominated by Trump and WH officials had praised his efforts on immigration enforcement and other Trump admin policies. He was liked by both sides. |

Siebert's replacement has been announced.
