It's like the week before Christmas for helicopter parents, prestige chasers, and assorted Karens. The new USNWR rankings drop on the 23rd, so post your predictions here. Who's rising, who's falling, who's gaming the system? Let's see what your top 50 looks like for national unis and LACs. Don't bother responding with crap like "get a life" or "who cares." By virtue of even lurking on this forum, we already know you're counting down the days, Karen! |
Absolutely nothing has changed but they will make some pointless little tweaks because if it was the same year after year no one would care.
Anyone who bases their search solely on USN&WR is a moron. It is directionally instructive but those who get in the weeds are dumb. #2 is more competitive than #202. But there is no material difference between 53 and 54. But someone will argue you to the death that there is. |
The big changes USNWR were a year or two ago. This year we will see only minor shuffling, about which DCUM will still overreact. |
UC Merced — breaks into top 30! |
UC Davis is actually a possibility. Could see slight declines for Columbia, Cal and UCLA. |
+1 |
Richmond breaks into the top 20 LACs. |
Only because you used the word "solely" is your response palatable. Before US News ranked colleges and universities, searching for a good college/university match was largely a guessing game. High school college counselors in the 1970s and early 1980s based recommendations on little more than that high school counselor's relationship with a particular college's or university's regional admissions representative. I praise US News college rankings for giving consumers much needed information. In the current market, one could reasonably justify selecting a college or university on rankings alone because that is what the nation's most prestigious and desirable employers do for internships and full-time career offers. |
Maybe for the WSJ rankings but not for USNWR. |
The big question is whether or not some of those changes will be rolled back in light of the new administration. |
Deep Springs FTW! |
Ummm. I thought the outcome was pretty much the same. Most of us who care go to flagships or schools in our region. LACs if your parents are LAC-friendly. And Ivies for 1500s+. That Public Ivy book was around in the 80s. Colleges that Change Lives is from 1996. I think the Internet's way more helpful. |
Or in light of the fact that many people think it jumped the shark…. |
Waiting to see if Notre Dame falls and Texas A&M soars in the rankings. |
Go ahead with your list, Karen. |
