Only because you used the word "solely" is your response palatable.

Before US News ranked colleges and universities, searching for a good college/university match was largely a guessing game. High school college counselors in the 1970s and early 1980s based recommendations on little more than that high school counselor's relationship with a particular college's or university's regional admissions representative.

I praise US News college rankings for giving consumers much needed information.

In the current market, one could reasonably justify selecting a college or university on rankings alone because that is what the nation's most prestigious and desirable employers do for internships and full-time career offers.[/quote]
