VA Lawmakers who support casino in NoVA, most likely Tysons

Anonymous
Anyone tracking this? I'm sure they are most likely outside NoVA. Any intel in where the gubernatorial candidates stand?

Casino = drain on the finances and well-being of the community

Agreed, it will generate construction jobs temporarily and some employees, but overall it will be a negative for the community. I'm opposed to it. I'd like to see it shut down for once and for all.

We need to know who supports it. Scott Surovell (D), Dave Marsden (D), and Stella Pekarsky (D) support it, but there must be others on both sides of the aisle.

My guess is that most DCUMers must support the casino. I know that there are a couple groups opposing it, but there is usually little traction on DCUM. Even those in DC and MD should be interested given that another casino is moving into the Beltway area. Do we really need more people gambling? Don't we have enough already especially with the proliferation of online sports betting??

What?! No, go find the old thread. Literally the only people supporting this casino are people that stand to make money from it. The local community HATES the idea and there's a good grassroots opposition to it.

+100
Did something happen? I thought the casino was voted down. Are they actually planning it again?

The efforts continue. A bill authorizing a Fairfax County casino referendum, Senate Bill 982, was passed by the Virginia Senate in February 2025. It died in the House. However, proponents of the casino, like Senator Scott Surovell, indicated that discussions would continue. New legislation is expected to be introduced in the upcoming 2026 General Assembly session.
