Major GERD flare up

Anonymous
I gained 3 lbs over the summer which pushed me from the upper end of normal weight into overweight. I’ve worked for the past month and shed 2 lbs. However, I am now having a huge flare up of GERD.

It’s kicking my butt. And I don’t know why this happening. I didn’t even change the foods I eat. I just eat less and move more.

Please share if you’ve experienced the same.

What kind of movement? Crunches? Hanging upside down? Do you have a hiatal hernia? Do you reflux food or just acid?

Just walking 4-5x a week for 90 min to 2 hours. I do not wear compression leggings.

Just acid is creeping up. 24/7.

Have you tried taking Prilosec for a couple of weeks?

Are you going through a stressful time? My gastric issues flare up hard when I am stressed. I've also developed sensitivities to certain foods in the last year - for example, I really cannot have tomatoes and I need to limit my coffee. I asked my doctor about this and was told it's a food sensitivity and not an allergy, and that it's common at my age (late 40s).

For me stress and middle age hormonal changes brough GERD back. (I had it during pregnancy too). Here's what helps me:

1.) Stop eating at least 3 hours before bed.

2.) Eat a small/light dinner. (I eat a big breakfast, big lunch and a nice size lunch each day, so the small dinner is more than enough). There's research about how digestion works better during daylight hours or something and my doctor suggested it.

2.) Avoid high acid foods, fatty foods and spicey foods.

3.)

Do you drink coffee? If so, stop drinking coffee for a week or two and see if that makes a difference. Whenever I get a flair up, I stop drinking coffee for a couple of weeks to a month and let things settle down. Then gradually go back to drinking coffee.
