NMSFs in DC 2026

Anonymous
Have they been announced anywhere yet? I'm seeing other states...

Apparently they were sent to the local news media. Since we don't really have any news media that's local, no one cares enough to announce the DC names.

Previously there was a book published with all of the names.

Other school districts announce, but crickets from DCPS... Likely because most are not from DCPS schools.

Walls has 3.

That's always the case though. Smart kids from throughout the region come to the region's best private schools, which are in the District, and take most of the DC NMSF slots.

If anyone here is a journalist, please be in touch with the NMSF media rep and get the list. Journalists are the only ones they'll release it to.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Walls typically has a handful, and BASIS and JR and Latin and DCI have a few.

With the high school ecosystem changing so rapidly I'm curious to see if there are any changes. Like, was the MIT acceptee from McKinley a NMSF and bring them into the list this year? Will Banneker have any? Etc.

The bar here is so incredibly high. I was one internationally and I think DC had a higher score that year.

I thought the numbers were posted for this year on another thread sometime back?

Both DC and international students overseas are set to the threshold of the highest achieving state. This year that is 225 (highest being NJ and MA), which is higher thatn MD and VA (224). I don't understand why DC's threshold isn't set at the cutoff for its highest 1% of students.

That was for last year. This years were just announced to schools and kids yesterday.

I also was one back in the day, in a state where the bar was lower. My husband was, too. No idea if my kids will be able to do it, but I do want them to be in a school where they have peers.

If everyone at a DCPS, charter, and private took the PSAT that would be how many students? DCPS doesn’t actually tell us how many high schoolers are enrolled, so I dunno, maybe 2-3000 kids (out of 50k in the entire system).

Anyway the 1% might result in a world where the entire Sidwell 11th grade class got it.

This was last year.

Public:

Walls (6)
BASIS (3)
Latin (2)
DCI (2)
J-R (1)

Private:

Sidwell (11)
GDS (7)
STA (6)
NCS (3)
WIS (2)
SJC (2)
Maret (1)
Field (1)
Gonzaga (1)

Some public, some private, just as I said.

The point I was making was that DC is a very competitive state as students come in from VA and MD who normally would be in competition there and make DC harder to get NMSF in.

DCPS does tell us how many students are enrolled in public high schools in DC.

That Data is here:

The total number of enrollees in 10th grad DCPS & PCS last year, according to the numbers above was 5858.

I don't know the number of 10th graders who were enrolled in private schools in DC, nor if that is tracked.
Anonymous
And 11th graders (which was the actual relevant number) was 5058.
