If you grew up in Virginia, how many of the 95 counties and 38 independent cities have you been to? I've been to roughly 100+ and slept in at least 38. |
Love this! One of our "retirement projects" is trying to visit all the state parks in VA. We literally moved to VA twenty years ago but were always so busy with kid activities that we tended not to go anywhere unless it was for a sports tournament, college visit, etc. Whole swathes of this beautiful state that we have not seen and enjoyed. (I have always wanted to go to "Walton's Mountain" and I'm really excited about the Better Homes and Gardens idea house which is somehwere near Charlottesville this year.) |
Great idea to visit all the parks. That's the thing, I used to have time to travel around 15-20 years ago before kids and I'm really craving it again, specifically seeing more of the south west. Trying to make time--life is so busy. |
I’m 45 and born and raised here. I haven’t counted but basically all the ones in Nova, Richmond metro area and Hampton Roads, plus Cville, JMU, Massanutten, Homestead, and the Eastern Shore. Very little in the SW part of the state. |
The Natural Bridge is stunning. Everyone should go. |
I've been to 132 countries before I turned 30. |
Did you also learn to read before you were 30? |
I’m in my 50’s and a lifelong Virginian from central VA. I’ve been all over the state thanks to parents who loved road trips. There’s so much to see. People around here really need to get out of northern Virginia to see the real Virginia. |
This is part of what prompted my post. Planning take my kid there soon. |
No clue |
OP. Yes, we traveled a good amount of the state and neighboring states too. It helped me love travel even though we rarely got on an airplane. I kept up going to more parts of VA before I had my kid and want to get back to it to see the few parts of the state I haven't seen. |
My kids and I have been working on visiting the state parks. They’ll send you a pin after you visit 5, 10, 20, etc. We visited our 10th park this summer. Aside from northern Virginia, I’ve visited Richmond, Williamsburg area, Newport News/Hampton Roads/Norfolk area, Natural Bridge, Charlottesville, Shenandoah & surrounding area, and various places along I-81, all the way down to Bristol. I’ve lived in VA for about 10 years but in the general DC are for about 20 years. |
I love this. It’s tough to say with certainty but my rough count is likely between 50-60 counties. |
ROTFL |
Mid 40s, born and raised in Richmond. Parents are from the Tideater area and SWVa (nearly to Cumberland Gap), and we still have family in those locations. Between numerous "local" vacations, visiting family, or college hiking adventures with friends, I've been all over the state, with the exception of parts of the Northern Neck. Although we did travel to Reedville once to catch the boat over to Tangier Island. |
