| There seem to be random anti-Wash U comments on this board, made in response to other inquiries. They are usually brief with no details. Curious why people seem to have a strong anti-Wash U sentiment and what it's based on? I was thinking maybe it's the location or the state, or are there other compelling reasons? What type of student thrives there? (referring to Washington University in St. Louis) |
| Great school. Most posting on here have never visited. There is an east coast bias, that's it. |
| It’s an Ivy League back up and it’s expensive as hell. Anybody living in VA who’s good enough to get into Wash U but not an Ivy is far better off going to UVA. |
Ignore haters it is a solid T15-18 private very close to ivy range as far as student quality and education quality. Compared with other private schools in that tier (Vandy, Rice, ND, CMU) it has the best balance as far as students studying all fields and not being too rah-rah-sports (akin to ivies). Alum network is cohesive, med/law/phD feeding is top, Engineering has moved up fast. DCUM trashes schools their kid did not get into and also schools DCUM deems to be too ___(asian, jewish, whatever it is that day). Cultures which value education value top schools such as WashU. Go visit and make up your own mind. |
WashU opens far more doors than UVA |

Very popular among Jewish kids. 25% Jewish students.
We visited this summer, really beautiful campus. Love it. |

Who's hating? And why does that bother you?
I swear that some parents on here have para-social relationships with colleges. They are not your friends, they're just institutions with enough pros and cons for there to be different (and sometimes polarizing) opinions on them. |
| Is this the one in Washington or Missouri? |
"in Missouri"
|
Location is would be a deterrent for sure. There are not many jobs in Missouri. Red state. Internships lacking. Rapes on campus and local police ignoring that. |
Any Jew sending a kid to Wash U moving forward is an idiot. Same with DD's. |
| Because a pipeline to internships in Branson or Kansas City is not what most DCUMers are looking for. |
exactly |
This is a down side, not an upside |
