Need a bra recommendation! (D cup)

Anonymous
I need help! I am busty (36 D) and short (5'2"). I like to wear minimizer bras to look a bit more... proportionate... and to increase the odds I can zip up a dress/ button a top. I used to LOVE Soma bras. I've had so many great bras from them over the year, but it seems like all of my favorites keep getting discontinued. My absolute favorite was the Embraceable No Show Minimizer. It had a very thin foam cup so you never had to worry about temperature fluctuations, it looked smooth under blouses, and I could bend down without having to readjust myself. The minimizers they have now are unlined. I recently got a non-minimizer from Soma and the foam easily wrinkles and it just seems cheaper/ flimsier than their old products. I've tried a couple of other brands (Wacoal) and it's just not as good. Any tips for a lightly lined minimizer? Or, just a favorite bra?

Go to a bra shop like Trosseau and try out different brands. They will also help with fitting.

I'm the same height but a 34G. I recently fell in love with Wacoal's Simply Done t-shirt bra. Only the underwire version -- the wire free one is terrible. It's not a minimizer but its the best fitting bra I've ever owned.

First step is to confirm your size. Media has conditioned us that D cup = big, but all D cup means is there is a 4 inch difference between your underbust and bust. If you describe yourself as having a larger bust, odds are you are higher than a D cup (and likely need a smaller band size). The calculator at https://www.abrathatfits.org/calculator.php is great.

I like the Fantasie brand--they have a full coverage underwire bra that I've found to be more supportive than the Wacoal minimizer.

I like Chantelle and Simone Perele. The more staid French brands tend to be really good for this size (I'm 32DD).

I liked Bali at that size (my chest is bigger now). I’m petite and it’s hard to explain but other brands just set my chest a lot wider. Bali looked more natural. Not their lace bras, just the regular kind.

Double check your measurements first! If you are busty it's unlikely you're a D cup . . . that's only a four inch difference in diameter between your ribcage and the fullest part of your bust. I have little perky ladies and I'm a C or a D. https://www.abrathatfits.org/calculator.php You are probably wearing a bigger band size to accommodate the breast tissue that doesn't fit in the cup.

Not true at all.

I just got these in that size and they are great. Not fancy but supportive and super comfortable. There are some I like off Amazon but they keep changing them and the support isn't great. I've tried many.

The way to check if you are in the correct band size is to try the bra on upside down and backwards, like a cape. It should feel tight enough to stay in place but not uncomfortable. If it feels good this way but tight when you try on the bra, it means the cups are too small. If it fastens on the tightest setting this way but still doesn't feel particularly snug, that means your band is too bug and your cups are too small.

+1

A D cup is not large. You are likely wearing a too large band and too small cup.
