We used to give our kids Apple Cash but DH’s debit card got compromised and Apple won’t let us update or add a new card.
Currently, our kids have our AMEX on their Apple Pay and my 16yo has a physical credit card but we have no limits or budgets. I know some parents use different allowance apps or budgeting accounts that have more parent controls. I liked how I could give my kid $20 or $50 on Apple Cash. It is really annoying how we can’t update this. |
| They use cash because they spend less that way. |
| They’re all authorized users on our credit cards. They all have a physical card. The older two have debit cards liked to their accounts as well. |

| We use a shared teen debit card from Capital One that we both can access. |

Never ever use a debit card. Especially now that the Trump/DOGE debacle and the elimination of consumer protection agencies.
Any credit card with $500 limit is fine. You can call a cc company and have limits lowered. |
| I set up checking accounts for them when they were 13ish. They have debit cards for those accounts. Also have access to a shared cc for emergencies. |
| ^ but they use Apple Pay for everything pretty much, linked to their checking accounts. |

My kid’s debit card is linked to Apple Pay. I transfer to him and then send to Apple Pay on my phone. I don’t want my debit card linked.
If he needs or wants more money for something, I give him my credit card for the purchase. |
| Pp again - my kid has 3 back accounts. One for spending, one for savings, and one for long term savings. He also carries his debit card most days. |
