And before you internet keyboard warriors start furiously typing to challenge my question, I’m aware it’s subjective, depends on circumstances in one’s life at the time, etc. And answering ‘mixed breed’ counts as an answer |
Oh good to your last sentence. Lab mix!
(not mixed with pit bull unfortunately. sorry) |
Pug |
Havanese. Cute, no shed and just great overall. |
Samoyed.
(Obviously. What kind of question is that? ![]() |
Any doodle. |
Mixed breed. We always grew up with mixed breeds, DH and I have had mixed breeds. The pros are fewer medical problems and more muted personality traits. They are usually kind of generic dogs which works for our 2 parent 2.5 kid generic lifestyle - we don't need our dogs to do a "job." You can use a puppy temperament test to get a sense of what its temperament will be if that is a concern.
My vet SIL would say - Cavalier King Charles Spaniels have best mix of qualities |
German Shepherd of course
If GSD is too much dog for you - the best next breed is Golden retriever (field preferred) |
And for the why - loyal but not clingy, driven, smart, trainable |
Anything with a lab is good! Or almost anything |
GOLDEN RETRIEVER.
AND YES IM SCREAMING BECAUSE THAT IS HOW STRONGLY I FEEL They are highly trainable, loyal, affectionate, fun to do things with outside- they’ll hop in the water, take long hikes, they love the snow- and aside from some shedding, their coats are very easy to care for |
Dachshund
Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen Basset Hound Long dogs! |
Because they've been bred to be very human-friendly, particularly with kids, and because they're so damn fluffy and smiley! I will admit that with climate change, there are only so many places in the world they can thrive... ![]() |
Oh, obviously it’s the Golden Retriever! They are sweet, friendly, loyal, just the very nicest and loving dogs ever. And that is my very objective opinion, not in the least biased by having a big warm golden snuggled up against me. ![]() |
I love Samoyed |
