Health and Medicine
| My DD has a cough... it's from nasal drainage I'm quite sure... No fever, her nose and cough are her only symptoms.. so I'm sure it's just a cold... but I want to cure it... I've done everything I can think of as far as home remedies go.. The only thing I haven't tried is the honey with lemon, but will try it when I can get out to go to the store later. Other than that, what else can I try to hopefully make this go away? |
| I guess it might make it easier for people to advise if I mentioned that my DD just turned 2 earlier this month. |

Research Colloidial Silver, OxySilver, Sovereign Silver. this works for us.

Please don't listen to this. There are no demonstrable benefits to this and there are dangers: http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/PhonyAds/silverad.html Honestly. What are people thinking? Don't give your two year old an unproven whackadoodle treatment, please. Call your ped and see what else you can do. |
| I agree with you... (This is OP) I'm looking for more....natural, home type stuff to try. |
| Have you tried a neti pot to flush out the nasal congestion? |

Reset your goals. You can't make the virus pass through faster than it will without an antiviral. You can help alleviate the symptoms and you can prevent a secondary infection. But a virus has to run its course.
Here is the Mayo Clinic's list of suggestions on what to try and avoid: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/cold-remedies/ID00036 |
| It doesn't get more natural than Silver, Olive Leaf Extract, or Grapefruitseed Extract. Otherwise, you might as well just go to your ped's office and get antibiotics now because if she's had a cough for this long from post nasal drip, you're about ready for the storm of hacking and coughing to get that crap out of her lungs. Honestly, it doesn't matter HOW you do it, but I'd get her some sort of antibacterial, or antibiotics, soon so you don't have to deal with bronchitis next. Don't mess with a concocted home remedy on this one. |
OP here... what makes you think that she's had this for a long time? And I have no reason to think that this isn't something viral that doesn't require (and won't be helped by) antibiotics. I hate hearing that it's wrong for me not to run straight to the pediatrician for a cough. Have you ever had a cold that started out as a runny nose, and turned into a cough that stuck around for a bit? Because I have. I'm just looking for ways to ease it for her a little bit without pouring her full of medicine. |

We elevated the head of the mattress (just stuffed some beach towels underneath) which sorta helped.
I also put some Baby Vicks rub on DD's pajama collar. So, it's not directly on, but still effective. My mom says to put Vicks on the ball of the foot since the nerve/major blood vessel(?) is connected to the nasal/sinus passages, but haven't tried that. |
| Would a humidifier help? |
| Yeah, I've done/am doing all of those things.. She has a toddler pillow, she's got baby vicks on her back and chest, and under socks on her feet, and she has a humidifier with vicks vapor going in her room (or whatever room she'd happened to be playing in during the day.) |
| I'm not advising that you run to the doctor's office, but my son had runny nose, cough and NO fever. He ended up having pneumonia and needed antibiotics. |
| I can understand your advice much better now.... How long was he sick before you took him to the doctor? Her breathing is fine other than coughing and occasionally having to breath out of her mouth... I'm actually sorry that my previous comment sounded a little nasty... I didn't mean for it to.. |
| I get so upset when my son coughs, too. However, I just had a cold with a slight runny nose and my cough lasted 9 days. It was annoying but I didn't feel sick once the stuffy nose went away (lasted for 4 of the 9 days). So, it made me realize that coughs can linger and to not freak out about it. |
