Is being petite only about height ? Is a 5'0 250 lb woman petite ?

Anonymous
I always thought a petite woman was a woman under 5'3 who is slim like ariana grande or Reece Witherspoon .

However recently I've seen who are 5'2 who weigh 220 lbs with a 40 inch waist saying they are petite /dainty . While these wear petite clothing socially they don't look petite/dainty in the same way a tall slim woman isn't petite/dainty to me .

Petite regular clothing sizes go up to 18 Petite.

Women's Petites are sized above this.

Petite is usually a height designation of under 5'4". Women who are shorter often require adjustments in sleeve length, torso length, placement of designs, inseam length.

Dainty is not a clothing size or height linked designation as far as I know.

An obese person could wear Petite clothing. But would never be dainty in my understanding of the word.

No real need to quibble about this anyway. Let people say what they want about themselves.

This, though many people don't understand the two meanings. I worked with a woman who was 5'2" and would freak out if the word petite was applied to a woman or girl taller than her because she thought it was a technical sizing term only. I explained to her that the word petite literally just means "small" in French and she dug in. For some reason it was important to her that the term belong to her. I did not get it.

There are plus size petite sections in certain stores. It depends if you are looking to describe someone, then no, you likely won’t call them petite.

But if you are looking to find clothes that fit you might need plus size petite clothes if you are overweight and short for your proportions. I’ve btdt at different points in life. You know the brands that carry this if you need it.

"petite" is French for small / little / tiny

if you're 250 you don't qualify you're just short and fat.

Just more societal attempts to normalize gross obesity and make it seem acceptable.

Dainty and petite do not mean the same things!

I know lots of overweight women who need petite clothes though. For some reason, the bigger the sizes get, the longer they get too. Short women's arms and legs aren't getting longer the fatter they get.

This is true in men's clothes too. DH is very tall and thin. Medium fits him best, but the arms are short. He has to wear a large to get the arms to fit.

Petite is now an English word that means shorter limbs/shorter torso.

Reese doesn’t look petite to me. In the same way Kate Middleton isn’t petite to me. Ariana, yes. Britney, no.
