My DD is pretty tall and I am wondering if her growth will slow down. We are looking at purchasing a car seat that only goes until 40 inches long and 40 lbs. and I am wondering at what age that will be.

Our dd is 4 yrs old, 42 inches, 40 lbs, so she hit 40 inches about 6 months ago. They don't slow down for many years! |
my oldest just hit 40" - not yet 40# - at 4yo. |
my son has always been a big boy and was 40 pounds at 2 and a half. He has just turned 3 and not gained weight, but is above 40 inches tall. |
My four and a half year old just hit 40 inches, but is still a few pounds away from 40lbs. |
My son is 3 yrs 7 months and is 40 inches and 39 lbs. My friend's daughter moved into a booster a few months after her 3rd birthday, she had outgrown the Roundabout.
You may want to look at a growth chart and see where your daughter will be by tracking the percentile lines--she may or may not continue where she is, but it will give you a rough idea. We like our Britax Decathlon, he still has one more slot at the shoulders to go and I think it goes up to 65. He's pretty much outgrown the Roundabout in my husband's vehicle, and I think I'm going to buy an Apex 65 booster, which has a 5-point harness up to 65 lbs. I just can't fathom putting him in a booster with only the seat belt at this point. |
Thanks. We are looking at the Roundabout. We have a small car, Jetta, so I am not sure anything bigger will really fit. |
my three year old, who was very tall when he was an infant, is 36.6 inches now and 30.5 lbs. so you never really know. |
My DC is 4.5 and not quote 40 lbs but he hit 40 in several months before his 4th birthday. I used to have a Jetta (before going the minivan route) and had the Marathon in it rear facing. It was tight but it fit. |
My DC is 4.5 and not quite 40 lbs but he hit 40 inches several months before his 4th birthday. I used to have a Jetta (before going the minivan route) and had the Marathon in it rear facing. It was tight but it fit. |
my 3 yr old was 40 inches on his b day but only 34 pounds, Tall and very thin. My dd is same way, but was not as tall has ds at this age. |
You may want to look into the Sunshine Kids Radian carseat--they have a narrower profile for fitting into the car. |
My three-year-old is almost 40 lbs and 41 inches. He's grown out of the Roundabout but fits wonderfully into the Boulevard.

At her third birthday my daughter was almost 40 pounds and was 40 inches. Yes she is a tall girl! We put her in the Sunshine Kids Radian at that point-the one that goes to 85 pounds.

One other thing to check is the seated height of your child compared to the highest slots on the carseat. I noticed this weekend that our 2.25 year old, who is only about 38 inches, is "long" enough in the torso that his shoulders are above the slots in the seat we have in DH's car. (He's only 26 lbs.) Some seats say this is ok on the top slot, but some consider the child to have outgrown the seat when this happens (I'm off to check the info now). You also want to be sure that the child's head isnt more than an inch above the top of the seat.
You don't mention how old your DD is, but one seat I'm considering and have read great things about is the new Graco Nautilus. It works as a front facing 5 point harness and then converts to a booster as the child grows. |
