Stop running the school bus stop signs! There’s kids coming off and getting on! Why do people do this?

This is so dangerous and I’ll never understand why people still do this. There have been accidents and deaths for decades now. There’s little kids getting on and off!

You have to be pretty dumb to do it nowadays given the cameras and steep fines. Those seem to work well because I don’t see people do it as much anymore.

Impatient. Busy staring at phone. Repeat.

Happened with my kid’s first bus of the school year.

I have never seen anyone not stop! Where do you live??

The ones in Fairfax County have cameras now.

A few maryland counties each issued over 50k bus camera citations per year. Clearly most of these drivers are not egregiously running past stopped school buses in a neighborhood and putting kids in danger, but most of them are on multiple lane highways that dont have a median. ive observed this many times with several cars not even noticing the bus or unable to stop because they are at highway speed. Its a money grab scam unfortunately and people love it because it protects the kids supposedly.

I’m a 50 year old mom of 3 that’s a very safe driver, passionate about this issue. And I got a ticket for doing this. In my case, the signs and lights were delayed / malfunctioning. Annoying.

- terribly self centered society
- people lack civic sense
- bad behavior is rewarded and there is no consequences for bad behavior.

You're describing a scenarios that involve egregiously running the stop sign and putting kids in danger. It doesn't matter that is isn't happening in a neighborhood-- kids are still getting on or off the bus.

Same thing happened to me! I was so upset--I'm literally the last person on earth that would zoom past a school bus. But I do think there is a special place in hell for people who do!

I’ve never run one.

Did you check the video? My wife made the same claim, but the video showed otherwise.

A lot of people think they can sneak through on the flashing yellows before the stop sign comes out. But the whole point of the flashing yellow is to tell you to stop before that happens.

It would be egregious for a bus driver to release kids across a multi lane highway with 50 mph speed limit. That doesn't happen thankfully, but the tickets still come flying.

One of my close friends was hit by a car in such a scenario, so you're not going to get any pity from me.

But you're right that it shouldn't be about money. Violations caught on camera should result in 3 points, too.
