| My DD goes to a FCPS in Alexandria and there are 27 students in her courts grade class. No teacher assistant. Is this kind of the norm these days? |
| These days? I had 30ish students decades ago at a W School in MCPS |
| We have 25 with no assistant and were told that is average. |
| Ours is 21 only but that seems unusual. 24 last year. |
What’s a “W school”? |
|
I taught school for 12 years.
Only one year did I have fewer than 28 first graders--and then, they cut a teacher because our classes were too small. So they divided out that teacher's class and I had 29. One year I taught 34. I think 27 is okay--though, the year I had 21 until they cut a teacher was wonderful. It lasted until the week of Halloween. |
| My kids first grade class had 32 kids in it 8 years ago. |
| We have 19 this year in FCPS, completely lucked out. It's a smaller grade than typical for the school. |
| Yes, completely normal. Staffing ratios are insane. Last year my child’s class was 33. Thankfully they must have gotten just enough additional students that instead of 6 classes for the grade this year they have 7, so classes are back under 30. |
It’s been the norm for decades. |
| Also have 19 in FCPS first grade this year. It’s a Title 1 school with state K-3 class size caps. |
| Yes, and it's been the norm for years. My kids have never had less than 25 in their classes in ES. MS is much larger. |
| Yes we have 28 |
| 19 in my daughter’s first grade class, 18 in my son’s third grade class. |
| What school is that!? |
