MSG - anyone else have terrible reactions?

Anonymous
While I love most Asian cuisine, I get bad reactions from MSG.

It makes me very tired after consuming it. Plus it acts like a laxative. But I also get headaches later, and dry-mouth.

Some claim MSG-reactions are a myth, but I know from consistent, personal experience it’s not a myth.

Anyone else?

Most MSG reactions are just racist dog whistles.

Most quality Asian restaurants do not use MSG. Many low quality restaurants, of ALL ethnicities even American, do use it.

Hi - I am the OP, and yes: agree; thanks for pointing that out.

Not all Asian cuisine includes MSG; most of the Thai places I like don’t seem to use it. I’m sure there are others too.

Not all restaurants using MSG are Asian. Baja Fresh seems to use it. Many salad bars are sprayed with MSG to keep the lettuce
Fresh.

Only 1% of the population are truly sensitive to it. That doesn't mean its good/not good for you, just a data point.

Is it really that small? Had no idea.

“Lucky” me (lol).

I believe that msg can trigger migraines for me.
Easy enough to avoid, I just have to read labels and check at Asian restaurants.

I don’t know if it’s MSG or some other ingredient, but whenever I have Chinese, I bloat like a balloon for days. It’s truly awful. I’ve never understood what it is about Chinese that does this. I don’t experience it with Thai or Indian, and I could eat a whole pizza and not feel as bloated.

I know that anything high in sodium will give me a headache, which means I can't buy those dry packaged ramen noodles or Cup 'O Noodles.

I don't know if it's MSG specifically but do know that the high-in-sodium noodles also have MSG.

All those foods are just packaged chemicals. MSG gives me insomnia, migraines and anxiety.

No, you don't. Are you allergic to tomatoes and mushrooms, too?
