Large Roster - Game Day Notification

Anonymous
For those of you on ECNL or MLSN teams with large rosters, is there a policy or norm of how far in advance a game day roster is announced? Is it always 18? Does the timing happen earlier for travel/away/overnight weekends or are you scrambling on Wednesday to make arrangements?

Every player on our team has already been informed of which game(s) they will sit out for the first half of the year through winter break. We assume injuries could influence this initial schedule, but there is a lot of advance notice.

This is very helpful. Would you mind sharing the team or at least the league?

Can I ask what age and league?
It's great for scheduling, I just feel like our coach bases it a lot on the weeks practices.

Agree impressive! Kudos to whoever running this- is it just your team so the coach is awesome or is it same for all teams where you are?

This is a BS way to handle it! It should be week to week and performance based!!!

my coach put a excel spreadsheet together for each week. He'd update it hopefully by Wednesday. As a team manager, i made sure that if we went out of town, he would update it sooner.

Only 18 can be rostered in MLSNext. For home games, usually the Friday before the game. For away games, occasionally a bit earlier. Starters and a few subs stay constant but usually a handful of spots that depend on practice usually.

Very little advance notice once you get older. You fight for your roster spot every game and it’s based on how you do in practice . So like 24 hours in advance for home games and maybe 72 hours for away. Sort of like college.

Any other way is more akin to Rec soccer and equal playing time..

Realize people have lives but you signed up for competitive soccer so…

I don’t mind the late notices, it keeps DS on his toes and keeps practices competitive. He signed up for it. Has never complained and eagerly asks who is on the roster.

Eh, if players aren’t fighting for roster spots at practices, what’s the point? You practice as hard as you play games.

It's supposed to be a team sport, not an individual junkyard dog fight.
