If that is the case, VYS Rec. families should pay less or not pay at all for the Directors salaries. Without VYS Rec. there is no VYS. Without VYS Travel, VYS Rec. will be fine without it. |
Out of the $120 per season, very little is going to the Directors salaries after fields, refs, insurance, and other costs. |
Relieved to be done with VYS rec soccer.
Speaking from experience because I had three kids go through VYS. Hated going to All Star tournament in Alexandria only to have our team play against three other Vienna teams. I get that field scheduling is a problem, but such a waste of time. Too much emphasis on travel and at very young ages. Third grade? Interesting to see my youngest's long time rec team all "go travel" and large majority by sixth grade weren't even playing the game. In these cases, it was the parents who pushed travel, then complained about how busy they were. Travel = AAP. |
Out of the $1k per season, I would venture to say very little is dedicated to the Directors salaries after professional coaches fees, league fees, fields, refs, insurance, and other costs. This being said, it would not be a huge difference between program contributions. However Rec. has more than 3 times the number of players than our Travel program. The math alone represents the obligation the club should have to dedicate equal energies. Not to mention, back in the day, every player mattered equally and players and families sensed that feeling of community. Unfortunately that has dissipated over the past few years. |
Not a strong program. Understand what to expect and live with it if you join. Vienna joining VDA is one of the dumbest moves, who in their right mind will drive to Woodbridge to practice. |
+1 |
While I scratched my head when that partnership was made, until you see how many "take advantage" of the opportunity and accept opportunities this spring you wont really know.. I do know that VDA practiced in Woodbridge, Gainesville, and Marshall HS (I think that was it) last year. |
The DA question is for a handful of players In the area, even at top top teams in top clubs. How many VYS players and parents care about where VDA practices? If you are from Vienna, you would know there are no DA commutes that will be easy now or in the future. If you are not from Vienna, why do you care about this so much? And yes. There is Arlington, at least for a couple of years for DA before boys go to DC United (which is relocating well outside the beltway). How many players from any club other than Arlington go to the Arlington DA? How many VYS players are likely to be candidates at Arlington? On their hand, is it really dumb to establish a marketing relationship with VDA? How does that hurt VYS? Everybody needs a reality check on this, talking about “programs” as if they are Kansas or Duke (umm, not even Bethesda is in that category), or as if the kids aware gonna be playing for first teams in La Liga (absolutely none will), or as if there is a material difference in coaching and playing talent across first teams of local U9s. There isn’t. Don’t kid yourself. 99.999% of Parents should focus on the happiness of their kid on the team, the convenience of practice, and whether your kid enjoys or is likely to enjoy being around kids on the club. The strength of the club is a lot more than winning or losing or DA placements. Which is why I found the HouseRec discussion a lot more interesting and concerning as a VYS travel parent. House/rec should be as strong as possible and obviously has a significant impact on the travel teams so I hope the club can address concerns effectively. |
Completely agree. It is meant to stroke the VYS director's egos and add to their weak resumes. They need this to create the illusion for the board that they are doing something. |
Good grief. How do you know and why would you care? |
Then let's skip past the usual "former coaches or parents with an ax to grind" nonsense and talk about the House program.
What needs to be better? |
Is the same true for the other DA programs or this just applies to VYS? |
Did I strike a nerve? Sorry! |
Caring about the strength of the House program. This is the reason VYS sucks. A travel club with a rec mentality. Not that VYS needs DA or ECNL but all the hand wringing and worrying about how the Rec program is performing is hilarious. |
Sir or Maam....I cannot agree with you more. I cannot right a "+1 " with enough zeros behind it. However, I would change "hilarious" to "pathetic". House? Who give a crap? It's recess. |
