So, was this true, that the cuts contributed to the lack of warning, or this some conjecture about it? Would the service have been able to predict this flash flood? Or is this how flash floods happen, generally? I mean, if so, there needs to be some real accountability. Such a tragedy. |
The service sort of predicted it, but the big failing was at the county level. |
From Food Aid to Dog Chow-How Trump’s Cuts Hurt Kansas farmers
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/07/us/politics/trump-farmers.html Kansans created Food for Peace, for 70 years a font of rural income and pride. Now at least one grain broker is trying to sell grain that once fed the world as dog food. Wheat grows so prodigiously here on the Kansas high plains that in 1953 the surplus birthed one of the Cold War’s big ideas: Food for Peace, a federal government program that delivered the excess bounty to a hungry postwar world. Conceived by a Kansas farmer and created by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Food for Peace has sent sacks of grain stamped “From the American People” to more than four billion people in 150 countries around the world. Now it is effectively dead. The program was administered by the U.S. Agency for International Development, which Elon Musk fed “into the wood chipper” on a weekend in February. Kansas’s Republican lawmakers tried to save it but failed to persuade President Trump, who last month proposed cutting the entire 2026 budget for Food for Peace as well as another food aid program dear to Kansans, the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition program. |
Now, all of that food is just rotting on our fields and Trump will just give bailouts to farmers that cost even more money for no return. |
How much money, if any, was in the BBB to bail out farmers and their losses? |
Some provisions within the BBB directly impact financial assistance and support for farmers:
1) Increased Reference Prices and Support: The BBB provides for across-the-board increases in reference prices and the calculation of effective reference prices, which is likely to result in an additional $10 billion in support for farmers in 2026. 2) Tax Cuts: The BBB is reported to cut taxes for farmers by over $10 billion and makes the current death tax exemption permanent, raising it to $15 million, according to Tulsa Today | a local news service. 3) Increased Agricultural Spending: Agricultural-facing spending by the federal government is projected to increase by $64 billion over the next decade, with the bulk of this allocated to farm safety net provisions like federal crop insurance and disaster assistance. 4) 100% Bonus Depreciation and Increased Section 179: The BBB restores 100% bonus depreciation for assets purchased after January 19, 2025, and increases the Section 179 deduction to $2.5 million for 2025. In addition to these provisions, earlier in the year (March 18, 2025), the USDA announced it was expediting $10 billion in direct economic assistance to agricultural producers through the Emergency Commodity Assistance Program (ECAP) for the 2024 crop year. This assistance included payments for various commodities like wheat, sorghum, and cotton. |
So how does this save taxpayers money? At least those farmers could grow crops and extend goodwill to other countries, paid for by taxpayers. Now, those farmers won't grow as much crops but still get taxpayer money to bail them out. That was a lose/lose move by the Rs. The entire BBB was shortsighted, and we will all be paying for their shortsightedness in the future. MAGA /s |
There was tremendous flooding, Involving a lot of extra water. There was too much water, More water than anybody needs. So we're taking a look at it, We're taking a look. |
MAGA mom arrested by Trump says she still loves Trump and they can't send her back to Iran because she is a Christian Iranian. Her husband refuses to take down all his Trump signs. I say if they can't send her back to Iran, send her to South Sudan. Just get the two-time felon out of the USA.

They should send her to Israel. Israel would make her disappear. |
Why have a reference price if you don’t have a market for your crops? Tax cuts aren’t going to help farmers who will go into debt from not having anyone to send their crops to. If there is no one to send crops to, what will the increased agricultural spending go towards? |
Farmers get direct subsidies. They will get paid in cash by Trump. This is why they love him. |
Canadian Trump supporter with Green Card denied entry to U.S. for 20 year old brushes with the law. Too bad he can't see his 5 AMERICAN KIDS anymore. And all of a sudden, he's not liking Trump so much. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/trump-supporter-with-green-card-who-was-in-us-since-age-3-denied-reentry/ar-AA1ImhFP?ocid=entnewsntp&pc=U531&cvid=871122d8f5d3464aba25a3d255645def&ei=27#comments |
