The only way to have equity is to drag down the top performers

Anonymous
Equal opportunity does not lead to equal outcomes. There is no vast amount of untapped talent. Throwing resources at low performers won't significantly lift them. If equity is the goal, the only way to get there is to handicap the very top performers. This is exactly what MCPS is doing.

This needs a new thread?

This has been happening all over the us for years.

The W parents really can’t help but reveal their racism, can they?

Don’t you remember closing the achievement gap nonsense? What was MCPS’s strategy? Bring the top bar down since bottom bar is not moving.

Who mentioned race?

If your kid is being dragged down by what MCPS is offering, they aren't a top performer.

Saying this doesn't make it true.

I think everyone already knew that. They give low performing students a leg up while also cutting high performers off at the knees.

We are seeing this problem in many parts of society. Economically, some populations are so far behind and others are so far ahead that they will never catch up.

Op are you one of the magnet parents?

Throwing resources at low performers absolutely will lift them up. And if your kid is really a high performers, they will be a high performer with or without resources.
