No consequences for the turmoil and mess he caused at Hayfield. Instead he gets a promotion. Good luck to the new programs he will be in charge of.
08/28/2025, 9:40 PM Great Afternoon Hawk Families, I want to begin by expressing my deep gratitude to each of you—students, families, and staff—for the unwavering support and commitment you bring to our school. In my 18 years of experience in education, I can recognize when I am part of a truly special learning community, and Hayfield is indeed one of them. The care, dedication, and spirit of collaboration are what define Hayfield. I have been both blessed and honored to be your principal and to lead the community in our strategic work in alignment with the division. It is with mixed emotions I share that I have applied for, interviewed for, and have accepted the position of Senior Administrator of Nontraditional School Programs, effective Monday, September 15. I am excited to begin this position, which was established several years ago to support students needing alternate pathways to graduation. I will have the opportunity to build upon my predecessor’s work in shaping long-range program plans to prepare students for their futures. I am proud of the results of the hard work of our staff, students, families, and volunteers. Together, we have moved the needle in the right direction in alignment with our division’s strategic plan. We accomplished a 5 percentage point improvement in reading, surpassing the state pass rates. In math, our 11 percentage point improvement also surpassed state rates. We also saw a 4 percentage point improvement in science. The school has seen double-digit reductions in disciplinary infractions and a 20% reduction in the chronic absenteeism rate. Under my guidance, the school also achieved a 6.4% increase in college, career, and civic readiness, while maintaining a high 98% on-time graduation rate. There is so much to celebrate! In serving a school community of more than 3,000 students, over 350 staff members, and countless community members, all with such rich and diverse lived experiences, I have learned a great deal. As a lifelong learner, I am grateful to be taking this knowledge gained during my time at Hayfield to my new position. As we recognize the importance of a meaningful transition, the Office of the Chief of Schools in conjunction with Human Resources will soon share more information about next steps as they begin a competitive nationwide search for Hayfield’s next principal. With Hawk Pride, Dr. Thompson Principal |

Why do we have so many people employed at Gatehouse?
Our principal/VP to student ratio is around 500 students per admin. Plus however many teachers and support staff. Our teachers have a ratio of 150-170 students per teacher. Surely the Gatehouse ratio of Gatehouse to staff should be similar. Right now, they sit at around 2000 non school based administrative/Gatehouse employees. That is only around 90 students per Gatehouse level full time employee. Something is very wrong with their staffing formulas. |
Because FCPS is a sanctuary system, they don’t fire poor performers they promote them, and there are a lot of poor performers. |
| Wow but not shocked at all |
|
Firing would have been an admission that fcps screwed up.
Promoting him shows they didn't do a thing wrong (in their logic). When is that Hayfield report coming out? 9 months seems pretty long. |
Meanwhile this old posting still up and never taken down- it was the “hours” of work report that Reid referenced when she had “full confidence.” It’s still up on FCPS site and what find if search for report. The one that Board called for will never see light of day is prediction by many on here. https://www.fcps.edu/key-findings-external-review-hayfield-secondary-school-football-program |

Expected. Only surprise would have been if ended up at St James, but he likely needs couple more years in FCPS for his pension to fully vest.
Only left at Hayfield then think is Overton’s brother who still shows on staff page. |
| This is like a parody. Why can’t fcps do anything right? |
| Go watch citizen participation from last night School Board meeting. Priorities are screwed up. Social issues trump education of all kids. |
Because it's a jobs program for people who sucked in school-based positions. I really hope parents start demanding answers for these horrible decisions. |
Taxpayers can demand answers to, by voting better in school board elections. |
| I wish DOGE could come into Gatehouse |
But if past predicts future, they won’t |
