Experience with L&L music vs Victor Litz for renting a band instrument?

Anonymous
I think the title says it all. Does anyone have experience with either business for renting a band instrument for my MCPS student?

L&L is better because they repair in house.

No but we’ve had a good experience renting from Chuck Lewis music in Wheaton

Buy a cheap one.

Litz advertised instruments at a specific price but when I went to buy they said the ad was a mistake.

I've done repairs and rented to own a professional level instrument at L&L and I thought they did a great job. No experience with your other option.

Disagree about buying a cheap one for many instruments. You don't need professional quality for a brand new beginner but if you can rent a high quality student one it makes a world of difference. My experience is mostly with woodwinds (have taught flute, sax, clarinet) but sometimes a cheap Amazon one won't even make sound even with a good player because the key alignment is off. And listening to a crappy violin is just torture.

It might matter less for other instruments.

I got a cheap one with an extended warranty. Guitar center will price match. It got dropped and the warranty replaced it no issue. We have a lot of instruments. Renting is expensive. And often the kids don’t stick with it. When they do I buy good ones.
